On Sunday 22nd May, 2005, Hayward claimed on Jimmy Hill that Steven Gerrard must be in despair that he hadn't been at Bolton the day before, holding the League Trophy with his Chelsea teammates. This was 3 days before, remember, he was due to lead out his hometown, boyhood-supported club as Captain in the biggest club game in the World. Even without knowing how that was going to turn out, how asinine is that comment ?

Controlled the game, kept the ball and in the right areas, constantly threatened to get in behind them but the final ball or finish wasn't quite there as you'd expect given we're just coming out of poor form. I think as the confidence grows we'll become more clinical. Most of the reports I read on the game seemed to be the usual horse**** written to an agenda by journos who barely watched the match.
