Gerrard was ONLY talking about the national teams chances of winning a trophy being greater if there are more English men playing in the top flight.
That is all. He is right in what he is saying.
I however would like to see lots of foreigners in the Prem, makes it a far better competition, however, I would say there are alot of average imports coming in aswell.

What he said was dumb and at best incredibly naive. He says that without the limit the English team will or already has been weakened, now I don't know if this is just my mind wondering but it sounds a lot like Stevie is blaming the English players for the poor performances recently and almost like he is just covering McClaren's arse.

I think even the most hardened anti-English folk would agree that the current England squad is one of the strongest for a very long time (even if they don't perform like it) and this is during a period where many of the top teams in the country play very few English players so the arguement doesn't seem to stand. I would concentrate more on the fact that English players are priced out of the market and their lack of flexibility in regards to moving abroad means they will always suffer. Berbatov cost more than £5m less than Bent.
