I agree with your Voronin comment...

I dont think that Babel will have the 'game intelligence' for a few more years... he seems like more of a 'here is the ball lad, go and score' kind of player!

Kewell and Benayoun could do it .... Gerrard thinks he can... lol

That looks ok by me. Though I would like to see Babel in there.

How about babel as a right back, against weaker teams... he might learn some good things.....

But I guess we dont want to do a Frenchman and dampen his creative instincts!

Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

I don`t really like SG playing that high.
He is a box to box type of player, and like to help out defensivly.
If we`re pushed back he will come back to help out. Babel and Kewell will also have to drop deep to help out Arbeloa/Aurelio. That leaves Torres on his own.

Well we've been doing alright of late which has mostly been a 2 with one playing a little deeper. I can't help feel that the original question was ridiculously loaded.

If fact I would go so far as to say that Torres and Kuyt together has been a good 2 for u almost whenever it has played.

It could be argued that the way Kuyt often playes it becomes a variant of 4-2-3-1 but I think that against Newcastle when we had midfield control he was right up with Torres a lot. In general I'm of the opinion that what we need is a fluid front four and should stop concentrating on whether it is nominally a front 1, 2 or 3. This is basically how United set up with Tevez and Rooney prone to going deep and Ronaldo good at getting into the box from the wing.

                            Wiki

                            "4-5-1

4-5-1 could be seen as a defensive formation, however if the two midfield wingers play a more attacking role it can be likened to 4-3-3. The formation can be used to grind out 0-0 draws or preserve a lead, as the packing of the centre midfield makes it difficult for the opposition to build-up play. Because of the 'closeness' of the midfield, the opposing team's forwards will often be starved of possession. However, due to the lone striker, the centre of the midfield does have the responsibility of pushing forward as well. The defensive midfielder will often control the pace of the game.

A modification of this formation is also used by José Mourinho's Chelsea F.C. side. This modified version is the 4-1-4-1 where only one striker is used and the wingers are given the responsibility of moving the ball forward and attacking. A holding midfielder is also positioned in front of the back four. This provides freedom for the rest of the team to move forward and attack as the defense will be "protected" by the holding midfielder.

Recently Big Sam Allardyce audaciously claimed to have invented this formation."

                              Ah ok.

It was supposed to be a joke about the Texan drama, Dallas. With JR & Hicks, etc.

seems as though I'm working on a different comedy plain to most of you
