    SG as england captainqqqqqq

He's said the right things and his leadership makes me think he's the right man for LFC. Anyone else been impressed?

Yeah I'd agree. I am in Australia and have a care factor zero for England so I am not the best to comment but I have read a few articles and seen the odd interview and must admit I have thought he has come across well. If he comes up with one of his better performances in the game tonight they should hand him the captaincy.

He's the man to lead England to a win if you ask me.
Nah. He won't win the Prem. You can quote me on that. - Sarb24

He's Liverpool through and through and you have to respect Gerrard for his work ethic and achievements for LFC. However his comments about England are nauseating as are the International breaks. He indirectly insulted most of the LFC squad (who are not English) with his comments about the influx of foreign imports. Somebody should have pointed out that the imports are here because they are better value and have been for years, example: We paid around £5m for Luis Garcia, simultaneously, Leeds paid £7m for Seth Johnson. Most of our so called home grown talent is over-priced. Also Manure paid around £18m for Carrick, we got Babel and Benayoun for that with cash to spare. The vast majority of reds fans, reportedly 28 million around the world - don't give a s**t about England. Most of the English players are a bunch of pampered, over-rated, over-hyped, vastly over-paid primadonas, with a complete idiot for a manager. We struggled against huge footballing countries like Macedonia and the FA hierarchy are akin to Monty Python. Jamie Carragher did the right thing and in my opinion shows a better attitude than Gerrard. Don't forget it was Lampard, Terry and Mourinho that nearly lured Gerrard away. And that's the crux of the problem here. As much as Gerrard loves his country and he should be respected for that, he's also in a clique with Owen, McLaren, Ferdinand, Beckham, Neville, Lampard and Terry which most Liverpool fans find extremely abhorrant.

So we want England to lose to protect Gerrard. The way things are looking he could be the only Liverpool player in the England team next summer.
Might be better if England win to and **** up the Chelsea and Man U. players who will be there.

It's Club before Country for me these days i'm afraid. There was a time i was mad passionate about England as well as Liverpool but as you get older you realise how inept and corrupt the F.A are and slowly the enjoyment i got from watching my national side ebbed away. There really isn't an English manager capable tactically of delivering and the tabloid press just hound whoever's in the job until they're ruined so what's the point! I actually think Rafa gets better treatment in the press than an England manager gets and that really is saying something!

I've seen all of his comments and wondered why he is so so quiet as the Liverpool captain!

I guess England is more important to him than Liverpool

Maybe Liverpool have a policy on what he can and can't say in connection with Liverpool?

As he is captain at the moment, the FA constantly wheel him out in front of the media. At Liverpool he's protected to some extent although I guess it's a UEFA rule that players do press conferences before CL games.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

If they haven't then they should. There's a startling difference between the quotes of Stevie and those of Xabi Alonso. I've wondered whether it is simply that one is more intelligent than the other or that one turned up for media training and the other one didn't.
