The return of - what we need to go 4th

okay so this week fixtures are:

    Newcastle v Liverpool (24pts)
    Man City (26pts) v Reading
    Derby v Chelsea (25pts)

It's not really looking likely this week, Chelsea will win v Derby, and maybe the best we can hope for is a draw from Man City and Reading which is also unlikely given City's home record and Reading's away record, assuming this happened and we win would be enough to see us climb to 4th on goal difference, still with our game in hand (yet to be scheduled).

Out of interest, other fixtures are:

    Arsenal v Wigan
    Bolton v Man Utd

not much to hope from there either

    edit

Also i've just noticed that Blackburn play their game in hand with Villa this coming midweek, so wins v Fulham (A) and Villa (H) could see them go above us by 1 point, assuming we win on saturday

We're getting to the point where a point away from home is as good as a loss. We need to go on a winning streak.

We need to keep in touch with the leaders, at this point 6 points is fine a winning streak toward the end of the season that see us overtake them would be preferable to a streak now and then being overtaken later.
      We come not to play.

aye there's no two ways about it, all those draws we've had have cost us position wise, we should have been much higher, but our run of games to new year will really shape our season now:

        Newcastle (a) - win
Porto (h) - has to be a win
        Bolton (h) - win
        Reading (a) - win
Marseille (a) - has to be a win
Mancs (h) - at this stage this match could see us go right next to them
Chelsea (a) (carling cup) - would be nice to put one over on them
Portsmouth (h) - about time we do these good and proper
        Derby (a) - win
Man City - if they are still in the mix needs to be a win

thats the way i see it till new year, nothing less than a run of wins is acceptable if we are really going to challenge for anything

don't agree, i think it breeds more confidence being at the top looking down, rather than being at the bottom looking up

For other teams yes, when ever we hit the top i dont know whether the hype gets to the players heads (it certainly does to us fans) or whether its the pressure we never last on top.

I like our current unfancied outsiders keeping with the leaders, no hype just results, then when the time is right like a prized horse overtake the leaders on the finishing straight.
            We come not to play.

After 13 games last season we were 16 points off the top of the table; win on Saturday and we will be 3 points off the leaders.

It's going to be a tough game, but a good run from now through to the new year could really set us up for a title charge.

All those games look higly winnable.

If we do go on a good winning run it'll put us right in the thick of the mix heading into the new year.

This really is an important 5/6 weeks coming up, altogether it will decided if we get to the next stage of the champs league, wether we're still in the league cup (it is a trophy after all, and made a bit more important by playing chelsea), and we really do have a better chance than ever of doing somehting in the league and a run of wins will put us there.

On the other hand, we could be left just playing for the FA cup, and thats not a position we want to be in

maybe worth noting that our injury crisis is about to come to an end pretty soon - barring Pennant of course.

pennant has improved and played to the best of his ability... is that goog enough for us at LFC - my personal view is no.

i have backed him as best as i could. but there are better out there and benny is definately one
