I disagree...many people here overestimate the relationship between Rafa and his players.

Very much agreed, its well known that Rafa is not close to the players. Man management is not Rafa`s strong point at all.

Bascombe will still have sources mate. I tend to believe him.

He is backing down though - yesterday he was gone sooner rather than later. However since the Mourinho link was mooted it has been likely that if anything was to happen re:sacking Rafa then it would happen in the summer when Jose becomes available.

Since last summers drama queen act I have had a lot less time for Bascombe. Maybe he does have sources but it wouldn't be the first time he had extrapolated beyond the applicability of his information.

This is the biggest proof for me that Bascombe is talking ****e and is merely gambling on the outcome, thinking he's got a winning bet (it looks that way now).

G&H won't sack Rafa if Liverpool win or come close to winning the title at the end of the season. If we end up struggling this season again then they'll have the excuse to get rid of him, but if they don't, they won't.

He doesn't know ****e, he lost his contacts after the takeover and he's bitter.

Assumming theres any merit in what Bascombes saying the plotting to get rid of Rafa has been going on for a while. It wasnt that long ago that several of us were moaning about the style of football being played, rotation, the use or lack of use of certain players like Crouch and Torres. CL qualification is also on a knife edge. H&G perhaps with the conniving of Parry and Gillette jnr may have come to the view that Rafa doesnt have what it takes to win a premiership, that he's too much of his own man, whinges too much, and is not the man to protect and enhance their investment.

Im not sure about Jose but did he not do a very good job at Porto with little $$ at his disposal-perhaps this is what is attracting H&G in addition to his experience in the PL

Barca will never take him, their fans hate his guts and his style of play doesn't suit them.

He won't choose the Madrid circus over us, he wants control and stability, he'll get that here, not there. He's also very settled in England.

Personally, I think Liverpool is his dream job and he's wanted it since the summer of 2004. He won't be taking another job soon simply because he's waiting to see what happen at the club. If Rafa goes, he's the favourite to take over. Sad but probably true.

Of the three I think Real would be his last choice. He has (either acknowledged or presumed) an affinity with Barca and ourselves. I suspect he feels he still has a job to do in England....and I wouldn't mind him doing that job with us.
