But that is only about 5m more than we normally spend and that is more than offset by the CL revenue and the new TV contract.

Our spending last close season looked awesome for the reason Rafa mentioned yesterday. HE raised 26m dollar in revenue through transfer dealings. That's more than we'd get for winning the EPL yet the chuckle brothers are telling him he can't sell.

They've spent not a dime of their own money.

He could have fudged though, sources close to, led to believe, increasingly likely etc. But he didn't.

Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

typical yanks come in talking the talk, put on the show for the fans bring in torres babel etc, get the stadium going thats all well and good, but it's what happens after that, anyone can make a grand entrance. I hope they aren't thinking that just because they're building us a new stadium it means they don't have to invest in the side, because that isn't going to wash. Lets see what happens in jan
          Agree.

IMO they've done more than I expected - but then who honestly knew what they'd do?

Nobody can complain with what they've done, in fact they should be happy, but quite a few aren't. You see people especially harping on about our net spend, do these people not live in the real world?

What's really sad is the recent outburst by Rafa not being happy with their detached ownership style - or so it seems - has allowed a platform for xenophobic ranting. Definitely not the Liverpool way.

I cant find the links now, but was reading in a few articles last night that someone (Hicks possibly) wanted to fire Rafa after the press conference but calmer heads prevailed.

I'll look for the links again.

The owners shouldn't interfere when it comes down to selling and buying players. That is totally out of order and a complete joke.

All they should do when it comes down to selling and buying players is to give Rafa a budget, not to tell him what to do.

The Rafa sacking story was run by one newspaper only, namely the NOTW, so people should take this story with a rather large pinch of salt.

Other stories have concentrated on our inability to raise money for the stadium and the fact it will be borrowed.

Yes honey but I was a big fan of Bascombe though. He's probably getting more money but he's spouting bollocks lately though.

One moment of madness here will set us back years, I cant take another two to three years of rebuilding and restructuring. I hope this is resolved asap.

Errr, ok, so any other potential, past or future owners wouldn't do anything of the sort. Remember the Mancs all kicking off about the Glaziers financing of their takeover? Shareholders UTD

Didn't hear too many of them complaining when Fergie got to spunk £80m or whatever on Tevez, Anderson, Nani and Hargreaves a couple of years later.

The only action so far, well, they've completely redone the plans for the new stadium, plans which, I should add, are now vastly improved to what was on offer before.

And they delivered our record signing Torres, plus two very talented (and pricey) youngsters, Babel and Lucas. Players whom you, AFII, described as "Rafa's first choices" yesterday.

That's not "very little action". So what, they're being a bit financially prudent and waiting to see what the situation is before committing to what people seem to expect to be an unprecedented level of spending mid season. Don't get me wrong, if they randomly sacked Rafa, that would be lunacy, and some of the things they have said have been pretty damn silly (as have some of Rafa's quotes too).... but some of the hyperbole on this forum of recent days is nothing sort of gobsmacking; we still don't know if this is all just a cultural misunderstanding being fanned by the usual media nonsense.
I would tend to agree with that comment but I think Hicks needs to be careful with Rafa and choose his words carefully to not make him look like a nobody.
I hope they can mend some bridges soon or I think if Rafa is belittled again he will walk.

A poster on RAWK is saying that Gillett want Hicks out and is looking for someone else to come in.

Dont know how realiable the poster is.

"My understanding is not going to be sacked, Hicks and Gillet have fallen out big time over the funding of the club, Hicks wants to go to the bank and gillet wants to stand by his word that no money will be borrowed, Gillet has been approached by a friend another Billioniare who has offered to purchase hicks half and because of all this there has been no money for transfer funds until it is settled, Also Hicks and Gillet are only speaking through Rick Parry."
“Hicks could have purchased Dallas’ MLS franchise but decided not to. ‘In hindsight, I probably made the wrong decision,’ he said.“.

That would explain why G&H don't talk to Rafa that much. I wouldn't be surprised if it's true. When was the last time both of them made a statement together?
