If we don't win it will give all the doom merchants in the press another angle on the 'Rafa will get sacked' theory. I think it's a big game purley due to the money side of things and what Rafa may want to do in the transfer market come January.
for the record I think we'll put 3 past Porto on WednesdayKurtangled in the McFadden thread 16/01/08

all the shenanigans could be pulling the team together. It certainly looked that way against Newcastle.Originally posted by Howard_lfc View PostBearing in mind all the shenanigans of the last couple of days - has this increased the importance of Wednesday night?
The game is a big game, but I don't think pivotal on our season. Would be nice to qualify and all obviously.Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'
"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.
* After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

I think Rafa will be fired if we don't win on Wednesday.Originally posted by Howard_lfc View PostBearing in mind all the shenanigans of the last couple of days - has this increased the importance of Wednesday night?
When you shout your mouth off you need to back it up with actions.
He has seriously pissed the owners off so a nice win should help heal the wounds. You can agree with me, or you can be wrong.

Rafael Benitez believes his team can beat Porto at Anfield on Wednesday night and give themselves a real chance of qualifying for the last 16 of the Champions League.
The team are in a confident frame of mind going into the game and Benitez feels the Anfield factor can play a major part in guiding the Reds to victory.
"The team has confidence," said Benitez. "We know it will be a difficult game because we know Porto are a team with quality so we have to do our job and see if it is possible to play as well as we did against Besiktas.
"And I am confident we can do it. We are team that can play under strain and stress. We have proved that.
"We have had our problems in the group and we found it hard in the game against Porto over there. But there is a big difference. For a start we are playing at Anfield – and we know we need to win to have a chance of progressing. So what we have to do is clear – and I believe we can do it.
"Porto cannot afford to just sit back. If Besiktas beat Marseille they will have a big opportunity to go through in the last game so Porto have to come here and try to win – and that should help us.
"People will be looking for another result like the Besiktas one but it is important that they are patient.
"We don't need a lot of goals. We just need to win because if we do that we can go to Marseille and have a real opportunity."

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

I can't remember having a bigger game so early on in the season. This game is huge on so many levels. If we don't win, we're out of the CL which would be a huge failure by the management team and the players. Given what's happened in the last 48 hrs, we have to win or I fear the Yanks may then feel that they are justified in getting rid of Rafa.
The Porto game is as big as gets and that's why I'm absolutely certain we'll win it. 3-0.
