Exactly. It's annoying and ruins it but so many people do it every week that it can't just be the case that all those people don't know the song. Which begs the question why they do it? It's got me stumped.
Technically we've already sung Alun Parry penned songs before. The summer when we signed Henchoz and Hyypia , he wrote some songs for them and sent them into the Echo. They' have been sung at the match numerous times probably by people who've claimed to have made them up themselves.
Not normally one to blow Alun's trumpet because as a schoolfriend it's my job to tell him how much of a **** he is . but credit wherecredit's due and all that.
"Man will never be free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest."
- Denis Diderot (1713-1784)
In these days of changing ways
so called liberated days
a story comes to mind of a friend of mine
Rafa Benitez was great I guess
nothin' more or nothin' less
One of the best managers I ever knew
Jose's tears fell in vain
the night Rafa tried to explain
that Garcia’s goal was just like all the rest
Jose said there must be a mistake
how can my team not be great
after all I've said and done for them
Leavin' Spain on an Aeroplane
cast out by the ones he loved
A victim of meddling owners it seems
Rafa came to old Liverpool town
where he quickly settled down
and soon became the toast of the mighty Kop
Accepted by Europe's elite
We went to the places that were chic
No final was complete without Liverpool
Around Europe we would cruise
and all the old teams blew a fuse
Everybody loved Rafa the Gaffer
The best time since Ive been alive
was in the summer of two thousand and five
he won us the cup and I was pleased
Rafa works day and night
but he doesn’t believe all the hype
but wants to be able to buy and sell
Deciding to take a look at a player
Rafa’s team were doing no wrong
A gentle breeze blew down Utting Avenue
Out of the lone star state it came
a Texan man with just one aim
to fire some innocent manager
There ensued a fearful fight
screams from the fans rang out in the night
Rafa tried for it to not be overblown
A Texan man, is twisting the knife
He didn’t need Rafa causing trouble and strife
He just pushed his luck a little too far that night
The sight of the Kop would scare the yanks
The crowds gathered, the fans all came
An Mariah van screamed to a halt on Walton Lane
Rafa’s reign ended there
but I ask deos Hicks really care
Rafa said to Hicks and I quote
He said "Never wait or hesitate
Get in there, before it's too late
We may never get another chance
'Cos are a game but it don't last
Do it now and do it fast"
Rafa was a friend of mine
Oh Rafa stay, don't go away
Rafa please stay you take our breath away
Oh Rafa stay, don't go away
Rafa please stay you take our breath away
Oh Rafa stay, don't go away
Rafa, Rafa please stay you take our breath away
Oh Rafa stay
Bill Oddie, Bill Oddie, put your hands all over my body.
You're fooling yourself mate - Alun Parry is a superstar everywhere except the Isle of Man. There's always reports in the Echo of him and some model or soap actress...sordid tales of wedge and the devil's dandruff...
