However, that answer is correct. My best mates’ sister lives on the same street. Her young son – my mates’ nephew, obv – saw SG in the street the other week and approached him to ask for his autograph.

Stevie’s response was, word for word, “**** off lad”.

    My mates’ nephew is six.

I was told this last week and refrained from posting cos a) it's pointless and b) would probably cause some unnecessary ****e on the forum.

    Ah well.

What ****s me off is when current and ex players have no time to do little things like sign a bit of paper for the people who are indirectly responsible for them being where they are/were. Case in point - in the airport on the way back from Athens - one lad came into the cafe area where we were sat distraught - Rushy had walked past and he'd asked him for his autograph for his 5 yr old - Rushy had told him to **** off! Nice. He was spitting chips and you knew it had happened by the amount of anger he was spewing over it. Whereas Ian Wright was there and he was a good lad, laughing and joking with the Liverpool fans and having photos taken etc.

I can't help but feeling we're only hearing half the story

I bet the conversations were more like

Kid - Can I get your autograph?
      Rush/Stevie - Sorry kid I'm in a rush
      Kid - Oh go on
Rush/Stevie - I need to go mate, can you leave me alone
Kid - ****s sake, it's only an autograph
      Rush/Stevie - Oh **** off.

It’s a shame and it’s wrong but you can kind of understand them at least getting fed up with it sometimes, and you can forgive the odd outburst. Possibly.

As a kid I once waited by the players’ tunnel at Hillsborough before a 2-2 draw. The LFC coach pulled up and I was completely ignored by Peter Beardsley. I was about 11 at the time. Totally gutted.

There is always that possibility and without being an eye witness to it can't rule it out. I'm sure it will go as per the "Can I have your autograph", "No,**** off" conversation on occasions though as so many players are so far up their own backsides these days.

HA! I was once snubbed by Beardo too - was walking down Church Street in Liverpool in the early 90s and he was walking towards me. I walked past and said "Alright Peter" and he just walked past gazing up into the sky

my mate was the mascot at tranmere when he was about 10/11 - he got selected cause he was ****ing class at football and won something like Wirral junior player of the season or something.

He was dead exicted, in the tunnel etc and as they ran out on to the pitch he headed straight for the goal so he have a few shots etc only for Eric Nixon to tell him to "**** off"

oh - he's bald, he's old he's worth his wait in gold etc etc etc

The week Kenny signed I went down to Melwood determined to get his autograph. As the players came out to get on the coach a huge crowd swarmed around the King, each with the same idea as myself. Being 10 at the time I managed to sneak my way to the front and press my treasured autograph book into the great man's palm just as he got on the bus. As it started to pull away, Kenny had to quickly give me the book back with the signature incomplete, along with a heart-felt "Sorry, son."

When I checked the book he had just had time to write 'Kenny' which, to this day, I occasionally use as evidence of our close personal friendship.

I went twice to see them once was in 99-00 which I think was Fri night as we had a box and my dad got the company helicopter up so he could make the game. cause they wore that horrible green shirt and we won 2-0 can't remember the scorers, that's not the game I mean though it was just after we won the treble. the other was when we beat them 3-0 All I remember was Tony Dinnings pen
I think it's a foul, and if the ref gives it. He got to give a penalty. I know it's outside the box, but you see them given that close to the area. So if the ref gives it he's got to give the penalty as it so close to the area. But I think it's a penalty. Robbie Savage 8/11/06
