Problem being that United have a 10 year jump start on commercial activities than us, they've also made some VERY unpopular ticketing decisions i.e. all Seasonticket holders are required to purchase their seat for ALL cup games.

Thats ridiculous, and in fact you could argue quite the opposite. Those as old as me (iff there are any here!) may well remember the chelsea stadium fiasco during the 70's. The big triple decker stand now at Stamford bridge was build at (then) huge cost, and left no money for transfers. Chelsea went thorugh tough times - including relegation-which were only really solved when our Russian Friend appeared on the scene. Thats over 20 years , and all blamed to this day on spending dissproiportionate amounts of money on a bit of a stadium. Personally I'd rather G&H back down from thier plans a bit and show somw good sense here, and to me its more a mesasure of the men they are by doing it. And of course we all may like the new new stadium even more. Time to stop looking for reasons to hate people and pull together, its pathetic.

The same mate at AFL went to Elland Road just after they were first relegated as Ken Bates wanted to improve that big, awful stand before they returned to the Premiership (). When they got there, they noticed the concrete steps from the 1st to the 2nd floors were all chipped and scuffed. It turns out that the previous architects had designed the stand with the kitchen under the stand and the restaurants on the top floor. No problem normally... except the lifts stopped at the 1st floor and you had to walk the rest of the way up! The waiters and waitresses had to literally drag the heavy catering trollies up the concrete steps hence why they were all damaged!!

I hope HKS can come up with a cheaper design, because no offence to your mate but it doesn't sound like these guys at AFL can come up with anything imaginative or original

I don't see why he would take offence: he is a contractor who hasn't worked on out stadium for about 5 years and he preferred the HKS design (Mk 1) to the original AFL plans anyway. As I've said many, many times, the revised AFL stadium is supposed to be very impressive but could be based on that 70,000 design from about 7 years ago.

Becuase their ticket prices are so much more. I would be sceptical about them selling more shirts than Utd too - esp in the Far East.

New stadium decision in new year

Tom Hicks and George Gillett are now considering plans submitted by two rival firms of architects, both of which offer a cheaper and more viable option.

Dallas architects HKS – handpicked by Hicks for the original design which was unveiled with great fanfare in July this year – have revisited their initial submission and scaled it down in a bid to make it more cost effective.

Meanwhile, Manchester firm AFL – who came up with the design for a 60,000 capacity stadium which Hicks rejected as “obsolete” after taking over the club – have submitted a new set of plans which are also under consideration.

AFL were also commissioned to come up with an improvement on their initial 60,000 capacity stadium plans and they have done so.

Both sets of plans are for a stadium with a capacity of around 70,000 and the club will make a final decision on which option they wish to pursue early in the new year.

Not that bothered whether it looks out of this world or just like any other stadium as long as it can fit 70000, have much better facilities and help us make more money to spend on players.

Sounds very strange. If there is one thing you can be sure the new owners will focus on it`s getting money in. It could be something like the underground bunkers as VIP suits, or something like that.
But it`s probably just the Mirror getting it wrong.
