Tomkins really does talk ... a lot. I've given up on his articles, it's never worth ploughing through them to see him state the bleedin obvious.

The youth and excellence of Agger, Torres, Masher, Reina, Babel and Lucas is a huge reason for optimism - and we have some excellent potential ready to come through very soon (Insua, Hobbs) and in the medium and long-term.
One word of caution, though. These boards were filled with doom and gloom a month or so back and Rafa was being questionned from all sides after a string of poor performances. Just as it was short-sighted to be so negative back then, we should be aware that the team is to an extent, still a work in progress.
I'm playing all the right notes. Not necessarily in the right order. I'll give you that, sunshine.

I agree. Tomkins articles are well balanced, well argued and well researched. I always enjoy reading them, it makes a refreshing change to the bollocks other people get upset about that non-sensical journalists come out with. Then complain when there is a good article. Always something, isn't there...

Got nothing against Tomkins whatsoever, and I've never criticised him or ever mentioned ME. But we do have work to do you know. Time is precious and his articles are not as reader friendly as they could be - I'm just expressing the opinion that I wish he was more concise.

He is very concise, he's just also all-encompassing and comprehensive, it's just his style, I guess it might also have to do with the fact he's not writing articles all the time, so his tend to be more reflective. Or something :]

The difference with Tomkins articles and other journo's articles is that Tomkins is actually a LFC expert. In saying expert, I mean, his main focus is on LFC and pays far more attention to every detail than other journos.
IMO it is very difficult for journos who dont know Rafa inside out to write properly on the Liverpool situation, and there are a heck of alot of journos that still don't know Rafa well enough alot has to do with the fact that they cover all clubs.
They may be good allround journos, but I will never expect the vast majority of them to understand our situation well enough. Maybe they don't have the time to dedicate to LFC.
But when you read Tomkins articles, you nderstand here is a man that lives and breathes LFC as much as we do, that reads as much as we do on LFC.
I have all but given up hope of expecting good articles about LFC from all but a select few journos. Not even Bascombe is in that category for me.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

In the last few weeks Arsenal have struggled to play a full game of good football but have still generally got 3pts. Which however you spin it is the signs of a top side. The title race will be tight this year but I wish pro-LFC writers wouldn't keep writing self justifying rambles and whinging about some percieved conspiracy against us. It sounds petty and on top of that I'm happy for others to write us off so long as we keep on believing ourselves.

spot on Dave, it did irritate me a bit thought when, despite hammering Fulham for most of the match and winning it late on, we were balsted by the Telegraph as a one man unit. Whereas when Arsenal did the same and got late goas against Fulham, the press were all over them and their sexy football and how they are the second comingl.

                        Great article IMO.
"Even men with steel hearts love to see a dog on the pitch". It generates a warmth around the ground that augurs well for mankind and that's what life's about. Trouble is these days you never see a dog on the pitch".

I couldn't care less what the press say. You have some credible writers like Henry Winter who have respect for the club and know about the traditions of the club and then you have Manc lovers who live in London because they is no good team in London being bitter about Liverpool. The only one who has 'connections' has joined the Sunday S** so he can **** off with his bull**** rumours.

If we carry on scoring goals at the rate we are at the moment the adulation from the press will soon come. Don't worry about that.

In the meantime we should only worry ourselves with getting behind the team and keeping this excellent good run of late going for a few matches more yet.
                              Liverpool born and bred.

                                Bang on Kev.

Great article, well versed, and I can't believe how the doom and gloom brigade can turn anything from it into a negative. FFS, bitching because it was too long? Here's the Coles Notes version.....

"Liverpool are better than the press have said."
