Sorry but that's total tosh. Getting out of the group gets us one more round of the tournament - ONE. This one round (the last 16) will earn us a guaranteed couple of million quid (3m at the absolute most) that's all. It's certainly not enough to make or break a transfer window let alone the club as whole ala the Leeds situation.

The reports are that if we get knocked out at this stage we'll be losing £10m, £15m etc, but I'm sure these figures are based on if we make it through to the final or win the thing. So it's more like potentially we are losing out on x amount

I'd like to think we'd go further too but if you're looking for funds for January you can only budget for what you know you've got. Spending tens of millions in the window on the assumption that we'll be making another final would be madness especially if we do go out in the last 16.

I hope Lucas plays, He's a quality player and I think he plays really well with Gerrard. He's great defensively as well as attack, I haven't seen such a good midfield prospect since ...well since Stevie came on the scene.

Fair enough but from matchday revenue alone (tickets, food, drink, souvenirs etc) I'd guess you're looking at at least an additional €5 mil Euros. then there's the TV revenue on top of that. i don't know if I'm entirely accurate there.

What would be the price range or average of a CL last 16 ticket this year at Anfield? anyone...

It's probably worth another 15-20m if we went on to win the entire thing, but the next round is probably only worth £2-3m of that. We'd get more than that if we went on to win the Jaffa Cup.

If Rafa doesn't play Mascher in what is widely touted as being the most important game of the season, he'll have a job persuading Hicks to pay 17 million for him. He will play imo. Maybe Lucas will still play, but I would guess he'll be on the bench. Could be Gerrard, Mashcer, Lucas, Kewell/babel I suppose.

although Marseille aren't the greatest team, to win away in Europe is still a tough ask. As ever the 1st goal will be vital. Their fans create a great atmosphere and we need to keep them quiet. We can't afford to go a goal down as it will be a long way back.

You're probably right! We'd stand a decent chance of winning the UEFA cup with a reserve team if we end up in that.

The way the press and TV have been talking recently it's as though getting out of the group represents an acceptable CL campaign whereas going out in the group stage is a total disaster.

You have a central midfield plenty capable of nullifying any threat, a free to do as he will SG, and 2 wingers that can also play as wide men in a 4-3-3 formation
