    Mark Halsey

Whilst not blaming him in any way for the defeat today, I thought his performance was very poor.

He pulled Rooney up for fouling at least 7 times; including twice for use of the elbow and also watched as Rooney kick out and Benni in the second half. Not once did he book or even have a word with him.
Twice Ronaldo dived today - both claims turned away by Halsey and neither time did he book or even speak to the player. I can hardly remember a time when a ManU player went down and he didn't give a free kick for it.

I felt Halsey was lenient towards ManU, scared to incurr the wrath of old whisky nose after the game. Rafa on the other hand is more reserved and I feel referee's are not scared (for want of a better word) of giving decisions against him/us. Just look at some of the penalty decisions against us this season and tell me that those decision would have gone against Utd?

    It's a conspiracy I tell ya !!

He should have booked Rooney for the number of times he jumped into Carra without having any intention or chance to get the ball.

Rooney know that Carra had problems with his ribs, and Rooney elbowed him time after time in the ribs.

It's a joke that he didn't get at least a yellow card.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Tevez arm wasn't close to his body and that means that it's a penalty even if it's ball to arm/hand.

i had a bad view of that so cant comment.

            the two ronaldo dives.

howard mentions the ref blowing twice when rooney led with elbows. well i saw once when he didnt even get blown. so make that 3.

another incident that was strange was when evra went into the kop. halsey called a physio over but wouldnt let pepe take the goal kick even though he was off the pitch. this was really strange. when he eventually let pepe take it evra just ran on to the pitch without halsey even noticing.

3 minutes added on?? **** off... more like 5. at least.

I thought the ref had a good game. It was being played at 100mph and he kept things going for the most part. Not an easy game to look after and he wasn't trying to be the star of the show.

Refs get their fair share of ****e from supporters when things don't go their way, but you can't blame the defeat on him today.
What have I learned, Mr Mackay? Three things. One - bide your time. Two - keep your nose clean. And three - don't let the *******s grind you down

I thought the ref had a good game actually. OK, Rooney was under instructions to 'test out' Carra's ribs but players do that all the time. They hardly get booked for leading with an elbow unless there's actual bodily harm.

Evra got booked in the first minute against Benayoun which was pleasantly surprising as I thought the ref would just have a word. So he's not that afraid of whiskey nose. I thought the decisions were fair over the course of the game.

                    BTW, certainly wasn't a penalty.

Just seen some of Rooney's challenges - can't believe people are defending Halsey

Perhaps Carragher has to do a bit of an Evra to get the ref to protect him.

Halsey is invariably a lenient ref, it's just his style.

I remember him officiating in the Newcastle game at Anfield last year and he let Carra get away with fouling Ameobi in the air time after time.

Maybe the decisions didn't go for us today but I'd prefer him to some Manc loving whistle happy c*nt like Mike Riley.

To be honest not booking Rooney was about all he did wrong in my book. He kept a lid on a physical game and ensured that the game flowed as well as possible. People are too critical of referees and while not perfect he did a hard job well today.

Did you guys go to the game, or watch it on TV?

I'm just wondering, because watching it at the ground he was very frustrating. Too many long and pointless 'chats' which slowed up the game, refusing to take action after dives, bad challenges, and some very very blatant time wasting.

You have to commend Man U at how much they got away with today

(PS, I'm assuming the time wasting etc. wasn't obvious at home, but I'd seriously love to know how long the ball was actually in play in the second half - anyone know where we can find out?)

I thought the referee was poor today but coming home people on the radio were saying that he had a good game.

Personally I thought he was **** scared of United and their players. Rooney leading with the elbow (more than once), Ronaldos diving and there was a serious amount of time wasteing that all went unpunished.
