A loss to the Mancs at Anfield is never easy to take. If any fan could choose a match to win, that would be the first choice of most. Its natural to begin questioning everything after such a loss, but in reality we're in pretty good shape considering we have lost two of our most influential players for the bulk of the season so far. Carra and Hypia, fine defenders that they are, cannot play the ball out of defence like agger can. This is accentuated by the lack of alonso whose role is to receive the ball from the defenders and distribute it onwards. I know its only two players, but they are two huge losses to the team. No excuses though, we didnt play well on Sunday, but then again neither did they.
The recent crisis between the owners and benitez brought one thing home to most fans. Benitez is bringing the club in the right direction. The support for him after the initial falling out was immense. Granted, his sigings and teams have not always worked out, but he gets it right most of the time. I really dont think we've had the players or the financial input to truly challenge for the title just yet, and our record against the top teams is evidence of this.
In a straight fight, we come up slightly short. Benitez, who is an obsessive when it comes to stats and records, will not have overlooked this fact. If Joe public can see that the likes of Riise and Kuyt are not the players that are to bring us No19, then there is no doubt that Rafa is aware of it too. I trust that he will solve such problems and bring in better quality players now that he has the financial backing to do so.
I have been watching Liverpool all my life and before Benitez arrived I was at my lowest ebb as a supporter. Since he became manager I have seen our club grow in confidence and ability. A very likeable and modest manager he exudes the class associated with the club. He isnt at Anfield for a paycheck, he is there because he loves football, the club and the supporters. He wants what is right for LFC and wants to bring us to the very top. I never expected us to win the title this year, I really didnt think we had the players to do so and I stand my that still. But im not necessarily dissatisfied with our position either, because I know that under Benitez we'll be better after Christmas and next year and so forth. No 19 will happen.
I know that in todays world of 'instant gratification', that many will not accept that we have a bit longer to wait for our next title, but if you truly examine the 'bigger picture' you will see that today is a great day for LFC. We may have lost to our arch rivals at the weekend, but today we have received confirmation that rafa's managerial position is safe. That gives me great confidence for the future of the cloooob.
