    Rafa up for UEFA gong

    Rafael Benitez has reaffirmed his status as one of the best managers on the planet after it was revealed that he has been shortlisted for the UEFA Coach of the Year award.

    The Reds boss has been recognised for his achievements on the European stage after he led Liverpool to their second Champions League final in three seasons back in May.

    The Spaniard will battle it out for the award with compatriot Juande Ramos, Manchester United boss Sir Slex Ferguson, England's Fabio Capello and AC Milan's Carlo Ancelotti.

    But it'll come as no surprise to Reds fans that Benitez isn't the only Liverpool representative up for a UEFA award, with Pepe Reina in the running for the goalkeeper gong, Jamie Carragher and Daniel Agger in the defender category and Steven Gerrard up for best midfielder.

    Just believe and you never know what will happen.

    According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

        "Sky and Setanta have the right to choose their games and it will be the same for everyone. So Mr Ferguson will not be complaining about fixtures and a campaign against United.

            i would love to see reina get some recognition. the best keeper in the world.....it baffles me how somep people dont rate him

              If we want our players/boss to win then choose the worst player as the 2nd CM so Stevie wins. Dont choose Fabregas cos he'll get plenty anyway.

                Rafa won't win it for reaching the final. I would give it to Capello after he managed to completely turn around Real Madrid's fortunes to win the title....whilst also being sniped by the press and disrespected by the board week in and week out.

                  Anyone listening to 5 Live on Sun where the band of moron pundits (Paul Parker, Martin Keown, Kerry Dixon and the only one with a three digit IQ, Mark Lawrenson) were picking a combined team made of players from the top 4 clubs, and I think they were pretty unanimous in picking Cech (obviously judging him on his form of 2 yrs ago) because he's clearly "the best keeper in the league" :whatever: .

                    Just picked that uefa team.

                    It was lame the way they split the midfielders up in two brackets.
                    Also I was surprised at some of the lame forwards in there. I mean, Alfonso Alves...and Kanoute.

                    My team...as I have to vote for an LFC player when possible...

                    Cech the only one close imo..
                    Nesta and Toure could well be picked ahead of Carra/Agger. Some might pick Alves ahead of Zanetti, but a back has to be able to defend properly in my book. Maldini, while a legend, is now past it.
                    I think Ribery is ace, and Silva was the best of the bunch in a depleted left mid position.
                    SG and Kaka are obvious to me.
                    Strikers was a tough call as I can't pick Chavs or Manc/ex-mancs....


                    The manager is of course the Rafatollah...

                    Cappello did great with Real though. Agree with DS on that.
                    But we have to vote for ours here...

                      Gerrard will probably be the only one even though Rafa also deserves it for getting 2 discount teams in the CL final.
