    Stevie Finnan

Ok Arbeloa has been brilliant this season, one of our best and most consistent performers but one thing Finnan is better at is crossing and all round distribution.
People say we missed Agger and Alonso against the scum in terms of keeping and moving the ball but Finnan is also a great user of the ball, very rarely gives it away and puts in the odd good cross, stays out wide as well and provides good width down the right hand side.
Arbeloa on the other hand has a better engine, more pace etc but he's prone to give the ball away a little bit and he can't seem to whip a ball into the box like Finnan can.
    What do you guys think?
"Let me say for the record, I am not a gangster and never have been. Im not the thief who grabs your purse. Im not the guy who jacks your car. Im not down with the people who steal and hurt others. Im just a brother who fight back."

Finnan is quality, very reliable and consistent.

"If Gerrard continues to play up front, leaving this lack of creativity and intelligence in Midfield, the season WILL be over by Xmas."

I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."

People in here before the Manc game insisted Arbeola was at the same level as Finnan, I agree Arbeola has the potential to be better but I think Sunday was a real wake up call for the fans who thought he was at Finnans level.

We missed Finnan big time on Sunday.

I don't think Finnan would have made any difference at all against the mancs. We managed to lob the ball into the box without him, but they had 6 players in there and won most of the headers etc.

Agreed - I prefer Arbeloa on the left and Finnan in his usual position at the right. During the game I was thinking about Finnan as he has such a good cross on him and his linking up play with Benni or whoever plays on the right enables us to attack down the right very easily.

Watch the game again and we weren't fluid enough when attacking down the right, I'm also keen to see what Pennant has to offer when he comes back from injury as he and Kuyt norm have a good understanding down the right.

Your too good to be true, can't take the ball off you you got a heavenly touch, you pass like Sounness to rush. And when we're pissed in the bars we thank the Lord that your ours

"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."

Finnan hasn't been at his best this season but he's always been extremely solid at the back for us.

I hope he's fit to start tonight.

Steve Finnan is a solid and reliable player, which is what you want from a right back. It wasn't him we missed against Man U, but someone with a bit of creativity and guile.

Agger would have maybe made a difference, Alonso also possibly. But Finnan? No, not for me.

I think I'm in a distinct minority on the boards here with my opinion that Finnan isn't quite the player a lot of people think he is. Solid is the word for him.

I don't think he is enough of a threat going forward to be lauded quite as much as he is. I don't think he has the confidence.

Been a great servant, etc, but we need a more rampaging-type at full back these days...

And when I say 'play Gerrard on the left', I mean on the left

                            A defensive mid for £18m?

                              Reluctantly, I agree.

Especially as we have the finest anchorman on the planet allowing our fullbacks more freedom to advance in the knowledge they are well-covered.
