Completely understand why he moved there, and I'm not going to get all high and mighty about the fact that it's NOTW he now writes for.

But, I have noticed since he's been there that his articles are now more sensationlised than when he was at the Echo. Add in the fact that he's been completely wrong recently on just about everything, and his reputation I'm afraid isn't worth a damn.

I totally agree with that. To say he's dumbed down is an understatement but in some ways you can't blame him for going if it made life easier for him and his family.

It would appear I got my figures wrong about the net worth of Hicks and Gillette although I still maintain that it doesn't matter how much they are worth they aren't even willing to stump up the deposit on the loans they now want to refinance their purchase. I did see an article in one of the broadsheet comparing them to other owners and it did say £700M combined and I spent most of the morning looking for it but to no avail. I apologise about that in any case.

The problems at Liverpool just won't go away. On a weekend when the team hit the headlines for the right reasons with a 4-1 win over Portsmouth, they were back in the news for off-field reasons.

Following a public 'argument' last month between manager Rafael Benitez and American owners, George Gillett and Tom Hicks, the story this month, in the News of the World, is that Liverpool could be up for sale again, less than a year after the pair bought a controlling stake.

The Sunday Supplement picked up the debate this week and Shaun Custis wondered whether this 'club in turmoil' could really be up for sale.

He said: "There have been suggestions for a while that either both Americans, or one of them, wants to sell up and some of it is to do with the exchange rate apparently.
"There is talk of building a new ground. Can they afford that? And meanwhile Rafa Benitez is saying, 'can I have £17m to sign Javier Mascherano properly?'.

"Now they are not going to do all that, it's simple."

The end result of all this, according to Custis, is that something has got to give, and he believe someone will be walking out of Liverpool forever and sooner rather than later.

He said: "Also in the background there are people like Jurgen Klinsmann lurking around, possibly to be the new manager, you never know.

"At the end of all this, I cannot believe that we will get to the end of the season without something happening, either the owners leaving, the manager leaving or players leaving.

"There is too many things coming out, too often and Liverpool is in turmoil."

I know that the exchange rate changes frequently but it has been $2 to the £1 for a while now so surely the knew how bad the exchange rate was when they took over?

Did anyone hear that story about Hicks son getting engaged? Hicks announced it to the Directors box and noone even even smiled - he was supposed to be VERY pissed off. The Americans are finding it really difficult to handle this.

Bascombe is good mates with Dave Usher and posts on TLW once in a while. I know him only through PM's. He is good guy and says what he hears. He is close to Rafa especially and has good contacts. Its up to people what they believe though.

I don't know how much smoke there is here and how much fire, but if G&H are known to be desperate to sell the club after just a few months and still expect to turn a healthy profit, then either they are financial geniuses or Moores was robbed.

Also, people seem pretty keen for DIC to ride to our rescue - what makes anyone believe that they are going to run the club any differently from G&H? I wouldn't expect any owner to lavish great wedges of their own personal wealth on us: even Moores didn't do that, and he certainly is a fan. It may have been just about affordable to win the league that way back in the days when Blackburn were contenders - but where are they now?

Lastly, what is the worst that can happen? I have been watching for decades and I've had the privilege of seeing us win just about all there is to win. That truly has been very nice for us, but none of it is ours by right. And since finances are now the greatest determinant of success, our chances of winning the major honours are going to be increasingly constrained unless we become the plaything of another Abramovich. So what? Is that what people really want? Do you support the club, or the budget? I get pretty annoyed when we drop 'easy' points in individual games like Reading, but if we are incapable of winning the league simply because we can't afford it, then that's too bad.
