      Dont be so daft Fredo.

Posts like that contribute F all to the site. If that's the best you can do on a football forum then may I politely suggest you toddle off elsewhere so the rest of us dont have to put up with it.

I've said my piece and I'm not gonna respond further.

I think you've gone a bit OTT mate but in general I agree with you.

I'd rather start with 10 men than have Riise playing centre back.

And how long is it since Arbeloa played there? Surely if Sami is out and Agger is not ready then it has to be Hobbs. He's certainly not done as badly as some people have made out.

If you dont play Hobbs - a centre back by trade - when a spot opens up in the team and instead try to fit a round peg in a square hole then theres really no point in having him. Giving him a chance sends a positive message to the other lads in the ressies as well.

Spot on, no point in buying talented youngsters and not blood them in the first team when injuries mean your short of cover. Hobbs has done little wrong IMO, apart from being inexperienced that is.

I think you have to balance that urge with the desire to get them ready to play. There is no point throwing a young player into a really tough game when their confidence is fragile as it can set them back. The difference between a team like ourselves and a lower in the division team in this respect is large as we are expected to win each game and if we don't individual players are singled out in the press and by the fans and that can be damaging.

I really think the games to risk him in over the Christmas period were/are Derby and Wigan. We will probably have to play him against City but I think it is a risk we are forced into rather than something Rafa would have ever wanted to do.

I agree, I had him in my XI for the Derby game and would have preferred if he'd played in that rather than Citeh but he didnt and now theres possibly a place in the side for him so throw him in.

Which is what i'm saying, rather Hobbs than Riise at CB. Obviously big Sami or Agger would be my prefered choice but it doesn't look like that's an option.

My reservation is basically that he has come in and had bad luck so far - against Reading where the team was crap and really he wasn't to blame and Chelsea - and we have lost. So I'm reticent to put him in for a hard game until he has gained some confidence. That said I guess if he plays and does well it could be the making of him.

                        It's a fair point.

There is always danger the young player will choke like Leto against Marseille.

But in these circumstances, I think there is potential to damage Hobbs' confidence more by not playing him.

As our only fit centre-back, what message would it send him that even though he didn't let anybody down in either of his previous appearances, he won't be trusted to play against City?

I think it would set a dangerous precedent for the rest of the academy boys.
It's not good because it's rude. It's good because it looks like it's good because it's rude.

Hobbs if Sami/Agger aren't fit to play.....

Riise should be left back......in the dressing room....(Biff gets his coat)
