    If...if...if

We win our game in hand (obviously )

That puts us on 39 points. I think only one of the Arse or the Mancs will be able to replicate their form in the second half of the season and double their tally, thus reaching at maximum around the 90 point mark . That means it's 90 points to win the title (our goal difference will be the best, mark my words.

So 51 points from 19 games sounds tricky, but it is in fact only 17 wins and affords us two losses. Who (honestly) are we going to lose to? We play Chelsea during the African nations (3pts), there is absolutely no way the mancs can scab us AGAIN (3pts) and i honeslty think we'll be too good for the young Arsenal team second time round (3pts). HOWEVER, part of me is a realist and i think on balance we'll probably lose to one of these, accounting for one of our losses. That means against the rest of them prem (which is IMO generally pretty dross) we can still lose another game providing we win the rest.

And that's assuming a team reaches 90pts, which is pretty unlikely, 85/86 might nick it.

    JOB DONE.

There's no way we'll pick up 6 points from those 3 games. I honestly doubt we can win one game.

Shall we have a wager on that?

Liverpool FC Will pick up a combined 6 points or more from the games against Chavski FC, Scum FC and Arse FC respectively.

I cant see us beating the other 3 rivals on their own patch. 3 draws maybe.

Not going to win against every other team and only afford one loss at all unfortunately.

I think we need to be realistic about this season and the progress we've made. We finished 21 pts off the mancs last season. If we win our game in hand we'll be 6 off the pace at the half way mark this season. If we replicate that in the 2nd half of the season we'll finish 12 pts behind, an improvement of 9pts, that means we will have won 3 games this season which we lost last season, compared to them.

now thats decent progress but on the downside we finished level with Arsenal last season but we are 7 pts behind at present, which would be 14 at the seasons end, all things being equal.

So whilst we have improved so too have Arsenal and at a vastly quicker rate than us.

In short then, end of half term report, decent progress but no more than that and in truth better was expected. Whilst I think the league challenge is all but over we must ensure that we don't let the gap widen to last season's gap, otherwise we will be as far away from no.19 as ever.

We would need to win 16 or 17 out of our last 20 games.

                    Not going to happen.

Man U will most likely win it again this season. They also have a very young team that only will get better.

We need to sign three, four high quality players to fill the holes in our squad. If G&H don't allow Rafa to splash the cash then we won't win the league.

The other teams are getting better and better and we can't stand still and look on.

Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

It's time to go on a tear, and we have the squad to do it.

We are a scant 6 points off the pace (game in hand being a win) and we have been without Xabi and Daniel for way too long.

Take Giggs and Rio out of Manure for the same time period and they are sunk well below where we are right now.

Take Fabregas and Gallas out of Arsenal for the same time period and again, not even close to challenging with their bench.

Xabi is back to first team football. Agger has been given the pre-emptive OK to play very soon.

I'm not creating excuses for our league standing, as I am actually very proud of where we are compared to last year. Last year we had 10 total losses. At the halfway mark we had 5; we are now at 2. We won't get anywhere near last year's loss mark, so it is already going to be a better season. We had 31 points at this time last year; right now we have 36. Our goals for and against is absolutely impressive compared to last years, and with a healthy Agger and Fabio coupled with Fernando and Stevie staying on or near current form, it will only get better.

As I write this, Arsenal drew Portsmouth 0-0; a team we handed a 4-1 thrashing just last week. Other teams will drop points. We are still in the drivers seat, and still the masters of our own destiny.

                        Bring it.

                          good sensible post

                          but....

what about the rotation factor? if it really is a good thing, the benefits will come in the latter part of the season.

all 10 home games are winnable which adds up to 66 points. of the

6 away wins more would give us 84...thatll win it this year or go very very close. to do this kid of run need confidence but at the end of the day it comes down to one gam at a time. beating wigan ought to be a formality but so should beating derby away. beating wigan and then city....maybe the scum or arse drop a couple of points then it would be game on.

i dont think we can put this level of run together but who knows? if we get agger back and start getting some 1-0's, maybe just maybe

I know we have an appalling record against the Mancs, Chelsea and Arsenal, but we've gotta win at their grounds sometime.
