sounded a lot like houllier i'm afraid. also sounded like he was about to cry.

i have no sympathy for him - made your bed now lie in it.

Rafa will not win us the title. not this year, next or the one after that. our league form is no better today than it was during houllier.

with everything else going on rafa is dead man walking.

Just got back...can't be arsed. I usually try to stay out of post match debate when I return home but tonight was the first time in the kop I have heard most of the lads (and the few girls ;-) ) around me start to lose faith in Rafa, lads I would never have dreamed of hearing them say it. The tide is turning against Rafa I feel, it is still split but another home performance and setup like that at home and that'll be it I'm afraid.

I ****ing love the guy but it is getting ****ing hard to defend his decisions. 4-51 at home against any team is a ****ing disgrace and INEXCUSABLE! Can anyone offer an explanation to why he done this. Apologies if someone has already, I haven't read the thread fully.

Also, Crouch should of been on at 60-65 mins. What is he meant to do with 6 mins? Although saying that I suppose its debatable what he would of done if he played from the start.

I also agree with Charlesmanson, how do you explain taking off your RW a few mins after putting Crouch on? How is that ever going to work?

Like I said I love the guy, as do the lads I sit with at the game, but how do we defend or explain the two decisions mentioned above. I just hope this is a glitch and he can turn it around, but I'm starting to lose faith he can. I have seen tonights game too many times now.

        FFS man! Get a grip!

No-one can criticize or question any of Rafa's decisions around you, without you going all defensive!

I love Rafa, and I think he's the man for the job, although after tonight, I have to be honest, I' am starting to wonder about our title credentials under him.

Maybe you need to take the blinkers off when it comes to your own views!

        Jeez mate!
Then what was your point by saying it? If you think the mancs are better and it's not Rafa's fault, then be patient and support the team. If you are doing that and just feel the need to vent your frustrations on an internet forum, don't mind me then. Vent away.

So you want us to spend money like SCUM and Chavski.

If that's the case, you might as well go and support them because bar a crazy set of circumstances, we will never outspend SCUM or Chavski ever again.

I prefer to follow the arsenal method of playing attractive attacking football nad not paying over the odds

But you have to understand, not everyone lives in the perfect world you live in where we all love each other. The majority of the kop booed the players off the pitch...same kopites who chanted Rafa's name for long periods of the game.
Exact same for me. People booed who I never thought would tonight. And it was ridiculously cold, I still can't get my feet warm! Players are also not without blame tonight.

But where do you draw the line? Houllier spent a fair amount of money too on his squad.

That's the fallicy of comparing manager spends, they don't all start on a level playing field.

                    Comes to 86.88 million.

Time to put the 300 million figure to bed me thinks
That's still an insane amount of money spent on a team that just finished 2nd in the league.

Which was what? Win the league twice, yeah. But how? With more money that any other club has EVER spent, by a huge margin. Chelsea were something like £350m in the negative during those 2 years. We are simply not, and never will be, in that position, so far in the history of world football only 1 manager has ever had that level of financing in such a short space of time.

I repeat. He plays defensive football. He rotates as much as Rafa. He plays similar formations, and has similar ideas about the technical and tactical areas of the game. Plus, he has no class. His reputation is as much self-made hyperbole as it is fact in my mind, and he would bring no guarantee of a league title. No manager brings that.

Oh, and I know people are worked up, but lets have less of the outright insults please, turning on each other is just "the Liverpool way" isn't it

That post should be stamped on the forehead of everyone who thinks Maureen is a great manager.

If you look at our football, it's clear we're progressing.
I agree with you that I didn't think we were that bad tonight. It's true we are progressing ...but only in certain areas. When we're good, we're very good. But our empty, nothingness, and dire displays are too frequent too be just "one of those things" and since the bar has been raised in the the prem in the last 3-4 years, we really can't afford such regular lapses. And Rafa is responsible for these being too frequent in not allowing the team to flow, due to his constant changing iof personnel and systems. Add to that his poor record of signing top class attacking players and failing to get the best out of the 2nd rate ones we have - you begin to see Rafa's failings.

An example is that at 60 mins we still hadn't looked like we were getting No.2. That was the time to try and grab the game by the balls and force things, not wait to bring 2 strikers on until the last 5 mins.

The only thing I can think of is maybe Rafa has buyers for Crouch or Kuyt lined up and he didn't want to risk either of them getting injured.

I think you've made some good points in the face of a barrage tonight. But in a nutshell Rafa has got it wrong. TO turn it round HE needs to to change - but sadly like most of us who think we are right, he is set in his ways .

Sadly I think this will be his downfall. And ironic too considering Houllier went the same way.

True but how much has Rafa spent so far? Must be close to that amount.

Although the people who were singing did boo, the atmosphere was terrible again.

Wenger is at Arsenal since 1997 or 96. Rafa till 2004. He's bought a bunch of talented youngsters who've put us top of the league of the youth teams.

If you want success NOW you'll need to outspend them, that is clear. Don't you think there's competition to buy the best attackers, midfielders or defenders from the same clubs ?
