Problem for me Noel is that I am not so sure we have the money to have a clearout and rebuild. I wouldnt like a situation where we were having to sell to buy and being left with a small squad because we couldnt get anyone or having to buy second best again because we didnt recoup enough.

I fully expect the Gerrard rumours to start again where we were having to sell him to finance player signings or even worse Torres.

I hope the money men come out in this window and at least show willingness to back Rafa and in the summer make a real go for it.

Don't worry Niall, Rafa isn't usually one to accept mediocrity. Look at how he booted Josemi and Nunez out...anyone underperforming is at risk, and I'm convinced he must see Kuyt's limitations and is only playing him so much because there's not much of an alternative right now. As for selling Xabi, a while back I would have said you were mad but these days the guy pisses me off to be honest. He's got so much ability and was unbelievable when he first moved, but for one reason or another has just descended into mediocrity, only occasionally giving us a glimpse of skill that reminds us he is actually better than Michael Carrick.

But now Masher has pretty much made himself indispensable, to the extent Rafa is trying to cram them both in one midfield. To put it simply, him and Stevie play better when they aren't alongside each other, and while there was a point where you'd have a dilemma choosing between them, there's no doubting who the main man at CM is these days.

Had had a ****e day when I wrote it, so the wording was harsh. "Take a chance" would be more suitable.

He seems to react rather than being proactive.

Plus we could play with more intent to attack from the first. Too often we are timid and allow teams to grow in confidence by showing them too much respect.

Who said anything about world class? Half decent would do. Not even the scum, chavs or Barca have 22 top class players, but they do have a first team of 14 to 16 or so, and beyond that solid professionals of a good standard, or youngsters to fill in should they be missing for whatever reason.

Your post contains delusional excuses, and even worse you talk of us potentially being "unbalanced" by numerous departures. Sorry mate, but do we look balanced to you just now?

So what do you want to see mate. Should we hang onto the likes of Kuyt, Pennant, Sissoko, Voronin and Riise, players who offer us nothing? Or should we take a chance and improve things now instead of waiting while the rest continue to improve?

It is all very well saying we have to get rid of all these players, which I am sure most of them will go, but by the sounds of people on here the are alot of players in our squad that need to be shifted, and the way your original post put it, it sounded drastic, I believe the squad is far healthier now than when Rafa took over, so saying Rafa needs to make a massive overhaul is not really reflective of Rafa's squad building IMO. The quality of players we have now is much better. But if we are to get rid of all the players everyone wants it will be something like this.
Momo, Riise, Kuyt, Voronin, Crouch, Yossi, Kewell, Pennant and some could even argue Hyypia, Maybe you dont agree with one or two on the list, but it is a big overhaul.
Rafa will get rid as long as he can bring in some cover for the players he is getting rid of. That is up to nine players, and with the transfer market being so feroucious these days, I would seriously expect to be holding onto a few of them players due to lack of quality cover available on the market.
All I am saying is, Rafa has already showed us his ruthless streak in the transfer market, quickly moving on players who are not up to the grade. If Rafa chooses to keep players like Kuyt, he will choose to because he offers his system something that he values.
So my point really is, Rafa has been doing it mate, maybe we are financially handcuffed slightly which is stopping us buying the top quality everyone craves. It is just my opinion, but there is always destined to be passengers in the squad. I would love it to be otherwise.
