    What could have been

Berbatov so near to signing in
    Jan 5 2008
    by Tony Barrett, Liverpool Echo

SHOULD Dimitar Berbatov leave Spurs for an enormous fee during the January transfer window it will leave many at Anfield regretting what might have been.

In the autumn and winter of 2004, Liverpool were scouring Europe for a top class centre forward and Berbatov, then of Bayer Leverkusen, was high on their wanted list.

Leverkusen were willing to do business at the right price and the player himself was believed to have been keen on a move to Anfield.

That was until fate intervened and Liverpool were drawn against Leverkusen in the Champions League.

Any hopes of a deal being done were dashed as the German outfit decided they could not sell one of their main assets to a team they would be facing the following month and Liverpool ended up signing Fernando Morientes.

Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

berbatov and torres would be ****in sweet. a champions league draw sould not have

****ed this up. surely berbatov would have been cup tied in any case and couldnt have

    played against us???

and they had zero chance of beating us
"Sky and Setanta have the right to choose their games and it will be the same for everyone. So Mr Ferguson will not be complaining about fixtures and a campaign against United.

"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."

I actually remember back in the old days on KT a few people called for the signing of Berbatov only to be shot down by the majority of posters stating he was gash/average and would never make it in England.

      Just goes to show.

All it goes to show is that no-one knows how a player will adapt to the Premiership

          This isn't a real story.
          .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

It's footballers that can adapt that will shine through (which is in itself a sign as to how good they are). For every Berbatov there's a Morientes, Shevchenko, Ballack, Veron...

Players like Henry and Bergkamp came to the Premiership as "failures" in Serie A and look at how they turned out.

To be fair I didnt rate him before he came to Spurs although this was based on the very few games I'd seen him play in the Champions League.

Him and Torres could share hair tips. We won't get him but someone with a big transfer could easily prise him away. Spurs have shown that they're always willing to sell if the price is right for them.

Makes yu wonder what we would have got now had we got Berbatov instead of Kuyt for the same money.

Good player but I can't stand the lazy arrogant ****. And for all his superior ability his goal average isn't that better than Dirks.

I still would have had him instead of Dirk, though. Just another case of Rafa going for hard workers over quality.

I wish it would occur to him that it is possible to build a hard working team with top quality players.

I remember he was linked to us. But he wouldnt have come to us irrespective of our drawing leverkusen in CL. Morientes was Rafa's first choice all the way.
