Well, it's always a gamble spending big money on a very young players. I think Anderson is big hit, while Nani could be a flop. But spending 18m on Hargreavs is wasted money. He could be new Fergie's Veron. Babel has more chance then Nani to become world class, while between Lucas and Anderson I'd go for Anderson. But then again Lucas is much cheaper.

Comparing our spending to the Scum is disingenuous.
Even if we had spent the same amount, Ferguson is starting from a better base. If he needs to buy a new striker or winger he can spend £20M. We may have the same amount to cover several positions because we have been deficient in several positions so we end up spending the same amount on more players but with less ability through no fault of Rafa's. He can only spend what he's got and he has had plenty of gaps to fill as well as trying to provide cover for those same positions.
Add the fact that he has had to revamp the academy and that costs money too and you can see that his plans involve the future as well as the present.
He is not a magician and sadly he needs a bucket of money to compete for the league.
You can agree with me, or you can be wrong.

If you type in "Man United Transfers" in google, then according to this site:
03/04 - £2million gain
04/05 - £31million loss
05/06 - £10million loss
06/07 - £4million gain
So that's £35 million net spend up to the start of this season, in which according to the figures people are saying above, they've had a net spend of around £30million.
That is a total net spend of £65 million since 03/04. That isn't as much as we hoped. YES, they had a better base than us, but we still had more than able players, they don't spend that much more than us, if at all anymore.
We need fresh excuses and fast.

Thing is with the Champs League money we got, surely his spending is lower in ratio compare to that of Chavs and Scum..or has Gillette/Hicks et al siphoning off a wad to pay interest on the loan they took outCheers

I think that's the point, we could never recoup any serious money from sales as Ged burdened the team the overpaid, overvalued, overrated duds and I think we took a big hit on the majority of his signings. I mean, Le Tallec, Biscan, Cisse, Cheyrou, Diao, Diouf were catastrophic, Dudek to a lesser extent (was on a rather high salary if I remember correctly), Kirkland and Heskey and probably more. He didn't put a lot of work in the youths so we didn't get any income there either.Originally posted by Alan Key View PostIf you type in "Man United Transfers" in google, then according to this site:

Even if we were only spending the same as them, our squad was in a worse state than theirs and as they only needed one or two players a season they could spend their whole budget on those players (Van Nistleroy, Veron, Ferdinand, Rooney, Carrick etc) whereas we need to sign 4 or 5 players with a similar amount of money to spend! The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

That's the point, they made difference with such players as Rooney, Rio etc. Ferguson was allowed to have one ore two super expensive signing per year. But he was also alowed to have flops like Veron who is the worst transfer deal in history.Imagine Rafa paying such money for a future failure and reaction in press, fans reaction, owners reaction.

Can I recommend that anyone who doesn't have an agenda with Rafa (i.e. are open minded), get hold of a copy of Paul Tompkins "Above Us Only Sky". This should be mandatory reading for any red, and indeed any hack / pundit who wants to have his tuppence worth without doing any serious research on Rafa.
The thought of losing this manager any time soon (and I mean the next 5 years) fills me with dread. Read "Above Us only Sky" and I'm sure you'll feel the same way (if you don't already). I only hope the Yanks have had a copy for Christmas.

Yep! And in Ferguson's fourth season (where Benitez is now), he spent mega bucks on the likes of Ince and Pallister. These later became stalwarts when Utd went on to win the league for the first time in 26 years - but were considered flops when Utd finished 14th (yes - 14th!) at the end of that season.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostEven if we were only spending the same as them, our squad was in a worse state than theirs and as they only needed one or two players a season they could spend their whole budget on those players (Van Nistleroy, Veron, Ferdinand, Rooney, Carrick etc) whereas we need to sign 4 or 5 players with a similar amount of money to spend!
