I'm sorry mate. I thought that was exactly what I said just in a much less boring wayOriginally posted by Tatterdemalion View PostOff topic. Nice effort, but most of that isn't true at all. Northern Rock weren't sitting on Junk bonds. They were funding customer loans by borrowing in the short term corporate debt markets. Most banks take customer deposits, and essentially lend that out in the form of mortgages. Northern Rock didn't have enough customer deposits, so they were having to borrow in the corporate markets. On the one hand they had a mismatch between the maturity of their assets (the loans) and their liabilities (the customer deposits, or in their case corporate loans). On the other hand they suffered when the price of borrowing in the corporate markets rocketed, which may be the same problem G&H are having at the moment - i.e. it is just more expensive to borrow.
The reason it is more expensive to borrow is that banks are unwilling to lend to each other currently, causing a logjam in the money markets. They are unwilling to lend to each other because of the way that subprime mortgages in the states were sold onto investors. Although it might have been possible to forsee a collapse in the US housing market, it wasn't possible to foresee how it would effect the money markets. Essentially subprime mortgages were packaged into tranches in such a way as to increase their credit rating (I could bore you further by telling you how...) which meant that they were attractive investments for banks etc.. Unfortunately they are very difficult to value, and furthermore i) some of the mortgages were fraudulently sold and ii) people forgot that when one redneck can't afford to pay their mortgage,l the chances are that very few of them can - i.e. they all default together.
It was a case of poor risk management coupled with fraud. Problem is that no-one really knows who is holding this stuff, so when a bank comes trying to borrow money, you've no idea if they're going to be around for long enough to pay you back! Hence debt is more expensive.
Sorry for the long boring post, but that essentially is the truth of it.

They've created more off the field turmoil in 10 monthe than we've had in the lst 50 years. Christ we are as much of a soap opera as bloody Newcastle now.[/QUOTE)
09 ive really got to disagree with you on this. I think the drama is being played out ( and in part caused) by our pathetic excuse for a press. Theyve had a row, theyve sorted it, thats what they'er telling us, and since ive got no reason to believe otherwise I'll stick with that. If im wrong im wrong and ill say so, but ive got my reasons for a total mistrust of the press.
I don't trust the press at all but i don't believe that the current problems are media led. Sure they add on bits and pieces for effect but its clear to me that there are still problems behind the scenes, and serious ones at that. You only have to look at Rafa in post match and pre match interviews to see the pressure he's under. At no time has he said he feels he has 100% support from the owners. He's continually saying how much he loves the club, how much he loves the fans and how much he wants to stay. It seems to me he's fighting for his LFC life, and that whilst the press are more than happy to egg the issue on, its a real issue and not a media led fabrication.AKA Heighway No9

But you have absolutley no evidence or facts to prove that Rafa is not backed completely by the board.Basically your reading his body language and "It seems to you" he`s fighting for his life. Are you a journalist????Originally posted by Sir Bob View Post

No i'm not a journalist.Originally posted by Johnny View PostBut you have absolutley no evidence or facts to prove that Rafa is not backed completely by the board.Basically your reading his body language and "It seems to you" he`s fighting for his life. Are you a journalist????
Nobody has hard facts on this issue on this or any other LFC site. you don't know if Rafa's being backed by the board. You look at the evidence and make your opinion, just as I do.
I don't believe that everything is hunky dory between Rafa & G&H and that all this specualtion is 100% media led.
There were clearly problems a few months ago and even as recently as after the Man U game, hicks came out with some pretty harsh comments on the team.
time will tell of course & I hope i'm wrong but I don't think Rafa will start next season as LFC manager.AKA Heighway No9

Wouldn't make any ****ing sense to name Klinsmann, Mourinho etc etc if they just signed Rafa on another 4 year deal. OF course the press would stop. Come on! You can't "spin" a new 4 year contract and start gunning for Rafas job again one week after. Be reasonable guys!Originally posted by kurtangle01 View PostThey'd find a way to spin it. They always do!!

They would start with other things of course but they would be unable to apply the pressure they are right now ei. gunning for Rafa.
G&H has to stop the speculation now with a new statement (regardless what Johnny says). If they don't LFC will be a mediafrenzy for the rest of the season.
