Klinsmann had an offer from us according to my friend. I emailed him last night and got his answer today. The Bayern official who said it is very close to the top so no reason to doubt it. They had to break the bank to get him. He is a journo as everyone knows so please don't take it as fact.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

If you can't post in a civilised way do us a favour and don't bother posting at all. As for all the talk of "not believing what you read in the papers" can I point out that if the papers consistently reported lies they would lose all credibility and go out of business -ergo most reports should be initially believed until proven otherwise. This is particularly true of the Guardian quoted above. The simple fact is that there has been a huge amount of speculation on Rafas position. At no stage have our cowboy owners through their mouthpiece Parry EVER made an unequivocal statement that Rafa is their man and is going nowhere. To me this confirms the speculation-which comes from numerous sources-is true and that they have looked for other managers and may be continuing to do so. Rafa of course may remain in post unless an adequate replacement can be found. This does not mean that a manegerial search has not been and may be continuing.

I agree with a lot of what you're saying. I have also been suspicious by the less than unequivocal public backing of Rafa, when the club have been quick to make public comments on other matters. It would be very bad business practice to sack a manager without having a replacement lined up. Given all of this, is it so implausible that there has been a tacit recruitment drive behind the scenes to replace Rafa? I don't know, it's possible I guess that they have been approaching others.

Personally I think Klinsmann is not one of them. The fact he has been linked with Spurs, Chelsea and others (and I'd be amazed if Chelsea were ever interested in him) makes me think it's all bull**** from his agents trying to boost his profile, seeing as he was previously stuck in a footballing wasteland in America, basically doing nothing and given that he is an unproven club manager. This could also be a way of Bayern selling an unproven manager to their fans - we had to nick this guy from 5 time Euro champs Liverpool, who wanted to replace their CL winning manager with him.

Of course, you have a point, and of course, there probably is no smoke without fire. BUT, continuing to play devils advocate in the spirit of debate.....

First, nobody has bothered replying to this previous post of mine

Scenario for you. This season goes properly tits up. Rafa continues to pick baffling sides and formations, Kuyt is an ever present for the remaining games, and we finish outside the top 4. Infact, we finish behind Everton. No silverware at all in the remaining cups either.

How many fans do you think would say Rafa should go? And how many of those would then think that maybe H&G had it right all along (assuming the media have been right about all that)? I'd say lots for the former, but hardly any for the latter. Which seems a bit cockeyed to me.

Not that I'm anything other than behind Rafa btw, or anything other than unsure about the owners. Hell, I still think Kuyt could turn it around
And second, what about all the Mourinho articles then, if our target always was Klinsmann? That one's been constant for the past 2 months nearly. I treat the press with a healthy scepticism; I certainly don't believe that the majority of what is published should be taken as gospel until proven otherwise. The transfer rumour forum is proof enough of that

IF the rumours about Klinsmann are true, what are the owners drinking?!
The man has no experience of club management and has won nothing!

This info is coming from Bayern isn't it? Like I said AFII, this could very easily just be a p.r campaign by Bayern to sell Klinsmann to the fans and give credibility to a manager they've appointed who has no managerial experience at club level, whose former assistant (Loewe?) has been credited with a lot of the success the national team had at the World Cup and who has until now been twiddling his thumbs in a football backwater.

I'd be absolutely stunned if Klinsmann was ever offered the job, or even considered, but if he was...

If it is true, then any amount of goodwill, any amount of patience, benefit of the doubt, faith, trust you may have had for them is completely out of the window for me. I'm already deeply suspicious of them, but if this is true then heaven help us. This is the straw that breaks the camel's back.

And with the amount of crap going about in the press, it is hard to separate the genuine from the goss.

Let's hope Rafa can carry us to Moscow to ease the pressure and let us have another shot at No. 6.

Mr M, to answer your scenario, what do the yanks know about football? To them we're the "Liverpool Reds" and Pepe Reina is our "goal tender".

If we finish outside the top 4 and have a disastrous season, all this speculation and pressure will be almost as much to blame as anything else. This pressure is not helping the team or manager in any way IMO. Rafa needs to have free reign to do his job.

Tommy, I have a question for you? You seem to have spoken alot to your Journo friend over the last couple of weeks. How is it that he never revealed this offer to you previously?? Perhaps he's only just decided to jump on the journo bull**** bandwagon. Also, his alleged source was probably the same Bayern director who started all this crap in the first place. Can you not even consider the possibility that Bayern are just trying to make themselves look good coming out of these stories??

But how is he and the team expected to do their jobs to the best of their ability with all this speculation and pressure? Like I've said before, I've been suspicious that the club has deliberately allowed this speculation to fester because they wanted to pile pressure on Rafa and precipitate his departure. With recent events (Hicks/Gillet's comments, our activity in the transfer market) made me change my mind somewhat, but the latest Klinsmann speculation could clarify a lot. Let Parry come out and say Rafa is the man for Liverpool going forward and the Klinsmann speculation is nonsense. Let's end this charade once and for all and instead focus on football. Otherwise this **** will continue to the end of the season.

I know some on here are saying they may be trying to boost their profile and make themselves look good but surely a club of their size do not need to resort to such tricks?

I have been going through Klinnsmann interviews on the German sites and I can't find one comment about any England clubs showing interest in him at all.

Very true. This is the perfect time for a public denial and backing for Rafa from Parry, Hicks and Gilette. Most of the time it isnt their job to deny any little bit of speculation, but these are huge allegations Bayern are making. Courting a new manager while the current boss is still in place would look extremely bad, possibly not even legal??

SURELY if this is all false Parry would want to make a public statement declaring the rumour 100% nonsense? If he doenst come out with a statement in next few days I will have to believe the rumours may be true.

                                Very well said.

Instead of attacking posters we should be looking at the role our cowboy owners have played in this mess.

The two main problems with them is that they know next to nothing about football, and even worse, they don't seem to particularly care too much about the club. They've been in charge for a year. How many games have they attended? Compare them to other owners like Lerner at Villa or Abramovich who are regulars at their teams games. Even the Eggman at West Ham looked like he cared.

Our owners hide behind their desks on the other side of the Atlantic, and as for their representative Foster Gilett is he even here half of the time, or has he returned to the states.

They have no real interest in our club.
They have no interest in football.
They are out to milk to club for all the profit they can wring out of it.
They failed to realise the scope of what they were taking on at the time. They expected easy profits not costly stadiums and I believe they regret their decision.

I sincerely hope that they and not Rafa leave our club this summer.
