as i said i would sugest these were published figures, we assume torres went for 18, he may well have but how do we know? did we see the receipt?! also am sure other clubs posted dealings are different to actual price, why should we be alone?

I'm with you in this.

The simple fact of the matter has been that for a variety of reasons including our failure to produce saleable youth players frequently enough, the need to overhaul a team philosophy which necessitates purchasing of a variety of players, lack of comparable revenue to be able to put in large up front bids for top players we have not been able to compete with United and Chelsea for top players. That is not to say that there isn't an element of the fact that Houllier bought a number of expensive flops which won't help the nett figure and that Benitez could have spend his money in a different way (focussing on one big signing each year).

Man U have not been afraid (and to be fair had the resources) to buy top-notch quality players. The odd failure has been sold.

You can't also underestimate the effect of having the freebies of Nevilles, Scholes, Beckham.

Looking at the figures provided, I thought Nani and Anderson were over £30m combined and Carrick was nearer £18m. That's about £6-7m difference. Haven't got time to check all the figures, although a few look high (Rossi for almost £7m ). But that's a £25m error between Liverpool and Man U just looking at the last 18 months!

Have the loan fee for Mascher but I cant see the loan fee we got for Carson. Heinze is meant to have went for 8 when other reports had it a lot less. The fee for Obi probably makes theres look a lot better, best bit of business they have done.
