In the next 5 years could we have a Scouse Spine?

CMS's comment earlier on got me thinking.....In the next 3-5 years the team could look like this: with a strong Scouse flavour if the're good enough:

    --------------------------Reina-------------------------

    Darby-------------Skrtel-------------Agger-------Threlfall

    RW---------------Spearing-----------Lucas-------Hammill

    ------------------Striker-------------Torres--------------

    Subs: Lindfield, Anderson, Peltier, Putterill

Add 5-6 top class players to that and we could have a perfect balance. Given we have some outstanding foreign youngsters as well (Nemeth, Ajdarevic etc.), the fututre could look bright for a local flavour.

It's a big IF, but IF these lads are good enough, it could restore a local feel to the club, even if we have foreign ownership.

The only one that really looks like he could make it is Spearing.. And considering we're boosting the reserves and the Academy with foreign players, it's a tall order..

Darby & Threlfall have been good too recently, and Hammill may be better for his loan experience. Add these 3 to Spearing and we may be in a better porition than we currently have with only Carra & Gerrard in the first 11. Evven if the other lads are only good enough to be squaddies, it's better than it currently is.

It'd be great to see local lads given a chance, United do it, but it seems Rafa has continued where Ged left off on that score. Ok, he's not as bad, he's given them a go in the league cup, but still, our options coming through the ranks seem to be virtually non-existent.

To many foreigners are better than the scouse players we have and have more chance of making it.

Are the foreigners better than the local lads - how do we know this right now? A blend of the two could be very good. Let me clarify this though - you only get in the side / squad if you're good enough.

For me a strong Scouse feel would be a welcome addition to the squad if it is at all possible.

I just want us to start playing as a strong attacking force mate, where they're from should be the least of our worries.. (though it would be nice bonus if they were local, obv).

because i;ve watched them play and followed them closely.

all our best prospects are foreign or not scouse: Bouzanis, San Jose, Insua, Ajdarevic, Dalle Valle, Bruna, , Kacaniklic, Nemeth, Pachecho, Pourie

Even our best british players arn't scouse: Kelly, Amoo, MacKay Steven and Eccleston.

TBH there arnt many young scouse players coming through.

That may be the case - but Hammill has been getting good reviews, Spearing has been good for the ressies, and Darby very solid when I've seen him.

insua is already first choice according to some, so you better put him in

Hammill hasn't been playing never mind getting good reviews
Spearing is good but no chance of breaking into cm with Rafa in charge imo.
Darby is a good tackler but thats about it, no real pace and average going forward.

So all three would get into or starting xi reccently

That's true Rocket. But he's got to knock Robbie Threlfall out first! I know who my money's on...

No they probably wouldn't get into this starting 11 - but you can't say they won;t continue to develop under Rafa.

The point of this thread was not to say we SHOULD have a heavy Scouse influence, but that we COULD, IF the local lads are good enough.

Agreed, besides it's a bit of a myth about us having a team made up of local lads in the past isn't it!? Even when the team was made up of mostly British players there were loads of 'non-scouse' players. As with us fans the case should be that you give your all for the club, regardless of race, colour or creed.
