    Turnover & Wages

    I am interested on peoples thought on this. We as a club have as our mission statement to dream to win number 19 and then 20,21 and on and on. It is as it should be.

    However, while we as a club want (actually it's need or perhaps demand) to win the title, all of our rivals besides Chelsea, ManU and Arsenal would be ecstatic with 4th. This places us in a very dangerous position IMO. Why?

    Our T/O is about 140M I think (please correct me, if wrong) which is affected by our CL qualification and performances. We have a decent size stadium but cannot (and do not want) charge London ticket prices. So compared to our title challengers we do not stack up eg

    Manu = 250M
    Arse = 200M
    Chelsea = Doesn't matter

    Compare to all other teams we compare favourably on turnover but they are not really obsessed with the title. They just want our CL spot at this stage. We however are trying to win the title and to do that you need class talent which we do have (not the best week to post this) but that talent demands high wage bills.

    So, basically we are between a rock and a hard place and IMO we are trying to punch above our weight because our high wage bill also affects our ability to sign high class talent.

    The thing that will fix this is the new stadium but until then we should not expect to win the title. Dream, definitely, but stay realistic because the 3 teams above us can afford to shop off the top shelf. We will be competing against Man City, Villa etc for players until then.

    The only other thing that would help is if DIC come in and are prepared to maintain/improve the squad in the interim period by investing funds until the stadium is complete. It's obvious G&H will not and I believe if we spent 50M (net) in the summer we could challenge.

    I'll sign off by saying we will need a miracle under G&H to win the title prior to the stadium being complete and there is only one manager I know who does "miracles" and we already have him.

    PS Sorry if this makes sad reading
    Nah. He won't win the Prem. You can quote me on that. - Sarb24

    More or less what I said a few times so I agree with you.
    Just believe and you never know what will happen.

    According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

        It's very unrealistic that we will win the title when we can't compete in the transfer market.

        We could only sign Torres because he ruled out other clubs. That is more or less our only chance to sign a top quality player now.

          We have our great name as a club and a great manager who also attracts high quality talent. G&H are doing what they can to ruin both. I'm not a happy camper

                  Is that what this club has come to?? Miracles!??

                  ****ing embarassing, and the top three would be lauging at us if they could see this. You think Arsenal or Manure (ill leave Grant out, indespite of of his amazing start) would swap managers with us?

                  Stop draggin this club down and admit we need a change.

                    Well I admit to wanting more discussion but you were not what I had in mind.:whatever:

                    Wenger and Ferguson are as good as it gets. Proven, long term managers who both received backing in difficult early days and their clubs have reaped the benefits.

                    By being realistic, which IMO my post is, i cannot see how I will "drag the club down". TBH it is clowns like you that demand the title in the current climate that will drag us down to Spurs level, or god forbid Newcastle.

                      Believe me, im far from one of those geordie mongs 'demanding succes' instantaneously. I just want a genuine challenge at the title under Rafa, and im struggling to remember the last time we had one.

                      Rafa has shown zero, and I really mean zero, to suggest he has the qualities to lead us domestically. Even in our greatest year under the man, an amazing achievment overshadowed an embarassing league position.

                      The man will forever hold a place in my heart for 'that final', but if im being realistic, i cant see the title under him.

                        Yeah I agree with that, you only have to look at the number of times we had to make do with our 2nd or 3rd choice players. Man Utd Arsenal and Chelsea don't have to do this
                        The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

                          More importantly they will not have to do this while we build the stadium. We need someone to do a Wenger during this period which is not easy.

                            yes, we don't charge London ticket prices, but also , we have a much lower cost base

                            stewards, police, all staff other than the players get paid alot less, and generally, all our costs are much lower than someone of say Arsenal.

                            just look at our stadium, it will/should cost nowhere near the Emirates

                              Good point. I do suspect the + outweigh the -
