For you to even point this out is superfluous to the debate.

I'm taking issue with your ridiculous comments from above:

Agree. Robbie might have a run of form now and then, but what I`ve seen from him so far this season points towards retirement. We were all deligthed when his return, but he`s now had a good pre-season and doesn`t deliver.

You are basing your whole argument on 146 minutes of football, which is ludicrous. I doubt you would judge players such as Alonso or Gerrard by the same criteria, and I find that unjust.

Robbie is - rightly so - fourth choice striker for us. My guess is that he accepts this. But who else would you realistically expect to fill that role?

All I can say is people are extremely ****in quick to write god off after a ****e display in the derby. Why are Finnan, Reina, Gerrard, Carragher etc not finished also if thats what its being based on?

I agree it`s unfair to judge him on 146 min, but it`s not the first 146 min I ever see of him. My judgement comes on the backround on last season.
Xabi and SG had good seasons, and therefore are more likely to improve.
He came to the club un-fit and worked very hard to get match fit, and there was big improvment. So we all said that after a good pre-season he`ll be back. So far there`s been little evidence of that.
He`s probably fourth choice, and happy with that as you say, but he has started games this season.
As much as I want him to great again I don`t see signs of it, at least not on regular basis.

It`s really just me writing him off.

He scored 5 goals in our last 9 league matches last season!! 2 of them were the winning goal in 1-0 wins….and he didn't play 90 minutes in those games!!
What more do you want from a striker!?!?? What are you talking about? About 10 of our top players have yet to hit their stride this season, so let's talk about them all….is Carra finished after the blunder in the derby? What about Alonso? Finnan? Hyypia? Reina? Bellamy hasn't scored a league goal yet for us…is Kuyt a waste of money too? Should we sell Gonzalez? Jesus wept man!

                    It`s not after 2 games.
It`s after several seasons of mediocre games.

Why not base it on our last 9 league games of last season then? Eh?
5 league goals - argue against that!

not only was his goal record **** hot last season, he was generally far and away the best striker on the pitch each time he played too. his all round game has improved beyond all recognition since he realised he cant outrun a snail anymore

As I`ve said, I think he`s still capable of streaks of his old form.
I just don`t think it will last. That he`s fourth choice will also count against him if the other hit scoring form, as there will be less chances for him.

So, in summation, the only criteria admissable in this debate are the periods when the player is out of form, and not in form?
                                Correct?
