Until now I’ve agreed with and understood Rafa’s reticence to start Babel, but I think now the time has come now to let him off the leash a bit and start him. Babel is clearly destined to be a striker, but when your alternative on the left wing is an almost-finished Harry Kewell, Babel has to start more games more often.

Kewell needs to adapt/change his game IMO if he is to maintain a career at the highest level. He still keeps the ball quite well but struggles to actually make things happen, and going past his full-back simply isn’t an option anymore. Maybe he could become a 2nd striker/attacking midfielder but I don’t believe he could fulfill that role at the highest level.

I think its time Rafa started to look at the future and what could be next seasons team which surely must have Babel starting more games than he has done this season.

Babel isn't a winger though. If you're saying Kewell shouldn't get a game anymore then fair enough, but it should be Leto or someone else from the ressies / youth side who takes his spot. Not forcing Babel to play there in an effort to give him games when he clearly isn't capable of doing that job.

I actually thought Kewell did okay last night, he had a couple of shots that required saves / blocks and, unlike Riise, were on target. His lack of pace doesn't help things though.

He's not our best winger. Pennant is probably our best true winger, but that isn't saying a great deal.

sad but true, Babel should be given a run as the second striker.

We should make the most of Kewell as his contract is running out and he hasn't been offered a new one.

He did ok, but ok is not good enough, he needs to spark, make some chances and get in the goalscoring positions as well as score some goals. He did well with one shot last night.

One thing is clear when it comes to class wingers...they're few and far between so you either spend big or you get mediocre.
