I'd be tempted to play Finnan at right back and Arbeloa at left back, as in my opinion those are our best two full backs

Arbeloa is too one footed. He always needs to cut onto his right foot to cross or pass. It is clear we need two world class full backs who can attack with purpose and do a good job defending.

I think you'll find he was injured (arbeloa) when we conceded the goal so not really ideal to look at that situation as a marker of his ability IMHO. He's decent and actually combines best with Pennant

A good bit then but Finnan isn't that slow, he's handled, Robben, Kalou, Reyes and Ronaldo before successfully. Not the quickest by any means but quick enough.
Arbeloa is very quick though, a real bonus to have a defender of his pace at the back, esp when our defence wouldn't be the quickest around.

Finnan HAS BEEN Mr Consistency but of late his standards have slipped. I can only assume it’s why he wasn’t in the squad last night. We have conceded too many ****ty, soft goals that have come from easily-preventable crosses coming from Finnan’s side – just recently there’s been goals conceded at Luton, Middlesbrough and another that escapes me.

Carra was so ****ing pissed off on each occasion that he immediately looked out towards the right-back area and laid into Finnan like you wouldn’t believe.

maybe he has had a couple of below par games but everytime he goes out, he has a different player playing in front of him these days

imo , he has had as many bad games for liverpool as arbelo has had in the last 5 or 10, thats the difference (thats not slagging off arbeloa)

i dont think he has lost his pace or anything, i think he is just getting over an injury anyhow according to irish press, so we will see in a couple of games if rafa thinks the same as you, i would be surprised if he does

my point being, finnan is the better defender and actually offers more end product going forward
