    Pako quits

Just seen this on 6CM...hadn't seen it anywhere before.

WTF? I didn't even know he was there. What happened to gardening leave?

Also, there was that rumour last week that he might be coming back? Hmmm...

    Soccer-Roundup 2-Ayestaran quits Real Sociedad
    Tue Jan 22, 2008 2:57pm GMT
MADRID, Jan 22 (Reuters) - Soccer news in brief from around the world.

Real Sociedad sporting director Pako Ayestaran has quit after the club's newly elected president Inaki Badiola refused to agree to his request to appoint Villarreal reserve team coach Juan Carlos Oliva as first team boss following Chris Coleman's resignation last week.

"They have changed the ground rules that were agreed when I agreed to take the job," the former Liverpool assistant told a news conference on Tuesday.

"I was meant to choose the coach and players, but the president refused saying he was the one who was paying the money."

Almost certainly bollocks, of course, but this story is a trifle strange...

Just a thought.......Is there a chance Pako left because of the yanks and not differences with Rafa? An article posted here a couple of days ago written by Dion Fanning basically said Rafa sussed the yanks out as early as the CL final and since then he has been trying to expose them. Maybe Pako wanted no part in this but could have quit his job in spain to come back knowing the yanks are leaving?
                        Dare we believe

I like the optimism in your post but its about as believable as George Bush's war on terror......
