I am not convinced at all that Masher will be signed. By the summer will be too late because I also doubt we will have the same manager and I would say they go hand-in-hand.

And it's not at all possible that Klinnsman used it as a bargaining chip.....

Either way, if there's a day in it (rafa meeting late Saturday, Bayern contact early monday), then it's too close to call to read anything conclusive into it.

Rafa says on the Official that he spoke to Mascher yesterday and is hopefull that some of the 45mil can be used to complete his signing.

I think Mascher will stay now for sure. If its a P.R victory the yank ****ers want they could do worse than signing us another world class striker in Jan too.

Good for him, but ultimately Rafa doesn't pay the transfer fee so it means feck all. What Rafa says and Hicks does and says are miles apart.

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez believes the sale of Mohamed Sissoko will ensure Javier Mascherano remains at Anfield.

Mascherano is currently on loan on Merseyside and Benitez is desperate to secure the midfielder on a permanent deal during the January transfer window.

The Argentine's temporary deal expires at the end of the season and he could then leave Liverpool with a number of European clubs circling.

However, both Benitez and Mascherano have expressed a desire to extend the 23-year-old's stay and the Reds boss is confident Liverpool owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks will broker a deal.

                Pro-active

And Benitez has now hinted that the expected sale of fellow midfielder Sissoko, who lost his place in the Liverpool team following Mascherano's arrival, to Juventus could finance a permanent stay.

"It could help," Benitez told Liverpool's official website when asked if Sissoko's sale could finance a deal.

"We don't have too much news but we are working with Mohamed Sissoko and I think we are close to a final solution which will be good for him and the club.

"I have confidence Mascherano will stay with us. I don't know the exact position now but I talked to the player yesterday and he wants to stay.

"I have had some contact with the owners. We were talking before about Sissoko and Mascherano. We are working and being pro-active."

He knows nothing then. He's prompting Hicks to make it so but has little clue whether Hicks is even interested in making it happen.

Another Premiership class striker would do me!
I have one word to offer - honesty. I couldn't be devious if I tried. Joe Fagan.

You could be right, nothing is signed yet but it does look a little bit more positive compared to his agents statement a few days ago.

I think that with the amount of **** we have given G&H they know they need to deliver El Jefecito to have any chance of winning us over. I think they'll do it and we have RTK etc to thank for it.

                            Tom,

I've got a lot of respect for you and your opinions but don't you feel the owners have boxed themselves into a corner and they must realise that signing Mascherano is essential to begin to work their way out of this mess - even if it's only to help keep the value up before selling

Can we get him to sign outside of the transfer window considering he is already on loan to us or do we have to wait until the summer as usual.

It only makes good business sense to sign Masch now. G&H could easily sell him for £25m or so in the summer.

                                A quick nice profit.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.
