Anyone watching 1989 FA cup final...

    ... on lfc tv now?

Now THAT's what I call football!

Can't believe this was almost 20 years ago. 19 years on and we're sooooooo far behind that class and magic of the 80s team.

But I guess football was easier back then. At least that's the feeling I get watching the fa cup final 89. Quick passes, quick movements, superb action ...

... and if I compare all that with today's shower of ****e performance, I start to cry

Now that was a great team.

Football seemed alot different. Much more controlled.

Passing back to the keeper for him to pick it up looks very strange aswell.

'Football is a simple game based on the giving and taking of passes, of controlling the ball and of making yourself available to receive a pass. It is terribly simple.'

I was studying in France at that time. A few friends and I went to Amsterdam that day - they left me in front of the hotel's television. When McCall equalised the second time I couldn't take it anymore and went out for a walk - I remember passing a side street and there was a lot of noise - I looked in that direction and saw there was a cafe with the game on tv. A waitress called out to me - "you've scored again" - it still remains a mystery of my life - how did she know I was a Liverpool supporter, I had no scarf on. And I certainly have never been so handsome that women I didn't know would shout that sort of thing at me.
I'm playing all the right notes. Not necessarily in the right order. I'll give you that, sunshine.

My favourite Liverpool team ever, Barnes and Rush were magic, that was beautiful football.

To think only a few years later Souness would bomb the majority of that team out, bring in crap and all these years later we've not one the league.

That game feels like yesterday but it also feels like a lifetime ago.
                We come not to play.

To think only a few years later Souness would bomb the majority of that team out to be fair most of them were getting old - its the criticism of Kenny that he let the team get too old, bring in crap no arguments there, though and all these years later we've not one the league.

The team were ageing BUT to get rid of so much quality and so quick also look at Milan and their ageing team (our team was no way that old).

McMahon all these years later is somewhat unsung, as a kid he scared me, with his ferocious tackling and take no **** attitude.

Milans fitness levels are a mile ahead of ours in 89. so not a great comparison to be honest.

and Souness readily admints that he tried to change things too quickly.

But it was a team at its peak it is always downhill from there.

That team wasn't as good as made out. Blew just as much as it won.

                              1990 FA Cup Semi Final

The late 80's team threw away the chance of 3 doubles in successive seasons. The late 80's were a talented bunch - but if you were being cynical you could call them bottlers. The team from the late 70's / early 80's was much better.
