As if winning football matches was down to the manager exclusively.

Our situation is puzzling at the moment. We have so much ability in this side that we should be right up there challenging but for a number of reasons, this season is turning into an anti-climax all the way. It's totally deflating watching LFC these days and frankly, I'm starting to not be arsed if we lose or draw anymore.

Add to that the fact that there's turmoil off the field and infighting amongst supporters, it's starting to become a real pain to follow the reds right now.

It would have been interesting to see if Paisley or Shanks would have been able to manage players these days. We used to be singing the same hymn, but for a reason there's no romanticism left in football these days. Footballers are overpaid, fans are fickle and taking the game too seriously and at the end of the day, it's becoming a strain to everyone.

Win or lose, we should have been taking it with some relativity and getting on with it and be united ... That's what our anthem is all about.

I have to stress that I ain't patronizing anyone but it's just a feeling I'm witnessing at the moment and it's building.

I dont know why you're going off on a weird tangent here, results are largely due to the manager's decisions and in rafa's case, he isnt making decisions which have a positive effect on results. Fact.

1. they are Villa and better than what they had in those positions previously. Harewood is fourth choice striker and he's better than our second choice!

2. They don't have as hefty a budget as the big boys.

3. He makes a lot less poor signings than most other managers.

I'm worried about reports that Gerrard and Carra rolled their eyes at the substitutions (which actually did improve things, I believe?) - has he "lost the dressing room" and are some of our stars just waiting for him to get the boot. Or are they too big for theirs and undermining him. I wonder who they want as a replacement - presumably not another foreign coach or at least not one that brings in loads of foreign players?

the roll of the eyes if this did occur could either be because crouch never came on, or because they feel rafa should have started with better players, or because kuyt wasn't one of the players leaving the pitch - maybe

I think most people would consider a title CHALLENGE to be good enough, for the amount of time he's been there.

If results were at a level deemed acceptable, we'd have that title challenge.

I haven't got time to read through this thread right now. I think Paco Ayesteran's departure was hugely significant. The players shouldn't need to feel 'loved' by the management, but it's obvious that there are problems which Rafa is unable to resolve. I believe that Paco's more human approach would have prevented the negativity that seems to be pervading the squad. Rafa needs someone to stand up to him occasionally.
