kuyt, without question at the mo. but to be fair to the lad he had a good first season and we dont know how badly his father passing away has affected him, i dont think id be giving my all for a foreign team in a foreign country if my dad had just died.

I'd go for either Josemi or Nunez in terms of quality.

Morientes was a disappointment but I wouldn't blame Rafa for signing him.

Also as poor as Pellegrino was I think his signing enabled Sami to be fresh to play in europe and us to go on to win Champions League

Bellamy if you count in both on and off the pitch.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Considering the financial outlay it would have to be Kuyt.

Josemi, Nunez and Pellegrino were all worse, but we got them for either nothing or cheap, and we made our money back on both Nunez and Josemi/Kromkamp.

I think its relatively difficult to gauge because Rafa has moved on the failures very quickly, and many of his failures have been cheap and therefore much less high profile. So where as i can think of so many individual disasters from GH era - its more of a collective minor disappointment now.

Pelligrino was meraly a stop gap for 6 months and im sure something Rafa thought would influence younger players.

Josemi was a poor player. I think because he was tenacious by spanish standards he thought that he was suitable for the prem. 2 million and shipped out straight away though. no damage done.

Whoever said kromkamp i strongly disagree with - he was unsettled but in my view not a bad player by any means.

i think Kuyt has to be his biggest let down purely in financial terms. I commented at the start of his liverpool career that he looked a good player but nevertheless someone that didnt have the attributes to be top class. He isnt quick enough, skillfull enough or prolific enough and will surely be sold for a large loss and prove to be rafa's biggest failure. (along with his refusal to drop him for crouch when out of form)

Pennant was overpriced and has a ridiculously bad goalscoring record, but for someone that particularly disliked him at the beginning - i believe him to be a useful sqaud player.

Nunes was free and moved on - no damage done. He could also cross the ball - more than several wide players still at the club.

Bellamy - turned out badly but he was sold for a profit? and as opposed to some i felt he was a bargain at the time - and someone that does have all the attributes to succeed given a run in the side. Even though hes an unsavoury character.

Babel - hes got lots of potential - but my honest opinion is that he is not a dead cert to be a consistent top class player. He could concievably become another expensive dutch import that doesnt fulfill promise.

I think the biggest let down could potentially be Zenden. He was past it as soon as he left barcalona. He did nothing apart from produce a phenomenal website and be considered a thoroughly nice chap to have around the dressing room. Disaster that he had to play in the champions league final. but again hes gone.

I agree with that I would say that the quality of the players signed by Rafa is better than that of Houllier, the Houiller era was littered with (fairly expensive) poor signings

Kuyt- what a rip off. We could have got Berbatov with the same money

Not Pellegrino, not in the grand scheme of things. He was free and didn't play many games.

Dirk Kuyt cost £10m and plays nearly every week, and he's rubbish.

For me Kuyt is easily his worst buy.

Jan Kromkamp for me was absolute ****ing garbage. what the hell rafa saw in him is anyones guess. he looks more suited to selling sausage rolls in greggs then he does playing football

                        Paletta.
Showed signs of potential but never progressed to the level required.
One of his final games for us, 3-6 Arsenal defeat, springs to mind.

I remember when rafa signed Kuyt - the two of them were on tv talking about 20/20 (goals/assists).....I foolishly thought that they meant in a season, not his whole liverpool career. Or maybe they meant 20 shots/20misses? Anyway, biggest disappointment so far under Rafa, followed closely by morientes. The free transfers and 2m/3m efforts shouldn't be counted as you can only expect to get what you pay for - it's when big (for liverpool) money goes on "proven" internationals like dirk and nando that people feel let down.

Has to be Kuyt based on the price.

                            Pellegrino was rubbish though.

Biggest disappointment in the last 20 years for me is Harry Kewell. I recall being stoked when we signed him. He scored one good derby goal and that's been it really.

hindsight is a beautiful thing - at the time 10 million sounded alright - and after the first year it still sounded alright - the fact is he was never going to be a world beater - it seemed blatantly obvious to me that he just doesnt have the raw attributes - and now his confidence is wrecked he looks more like darius henderson than the mark hughes style player i was hoping he could become. - which makes it all the more confusing why he was so high up the pecking order for the dutch team .

I agree - after torres he is the signing i was most excited about. When leeds were flying - he truly was one of the best attacking players in the premier league. Hes been wrecked by injuries - but basically hes just lost it.
