Who has been RAFA's worst signing??

Surely in order to improve his record further - Benitez needs to invest heavily in one-off players - even if it means buying only one or two in the window.

The fact is regardless of the season we are having - i looked at the sqaud at the start of the year and thought it was the best i can remember. In Reality we obviously now need another striker and someone world class in a wide area that will consistantly create and score.

Other than this although - and many will protest - i believe the squad is capable of great things next year - with or without benitez. i dont think we need any more defenders or central midfielders.

Rafa has now been around for 3-4 years and a time must come when his transfers, youth policy/reserve team must start to bear fruit - meaning that he can concentrate on buying just 1 or 2 top class men in the windows.

Its so obvious it hurts - but hes on the edge of losing his job and all our support now anyway. Hes not going to cheer us up buying in 4 or 5 more 6 million pound men. He should buy big and use the squad and reserves as his back up. I would be much more inclined to have patience and offer great support for a youth player or reserve trying to fill a gap in the team due to injuries.

Pellegrino was rubbish though.

Biggest disappointment in the last 20 years for me is Harry Kewell. I recall being stoked when we signed him. He scored one good derby goal and that's been it really.

Kewell WAS a good signing, Rafa couldnt have foreseen that he would get injured.

So he's struggling for goals but he's a better player than most of you give him credit for.

But then again you may all be right and therefore you all think Rafa is wrong.

Got to be Kuyt. Charles Itandje also looks a bizarre one.

I'm probably better than Nunez but he cost nothing so I let Rafa off for that one.

I think people are very harsh on Itanje I never saw him in France but he has quite a good rep there, considered for their NT a few times and played over 100 ligue 1 games. He's surely no mug.

It pisses me off that Kuyt cost 10m and Pennant cost 7-8m and we could've bought Simao for around 14m if we look at what Atletico Madrid paid for him.

Rafa in general has spent well when he's had the money although there have been a few poor players he's brought into the team regardless but he hasn't been silly about it.

Some examples

Nunez, he was absolutely ****e but he had no money and we didn't really have anything on the right wing so it was worth a gamble. If it came off he may have been better than Smicer.

Josemi was needed for backup, he couldn't adjust to the culture, we never saw the best of him, Krompkamp was just a filler for the end of the season.

Pellegrino helped teach the squad about man marking etc hardly played so in the end hardly a bad signing.

Gonzalez was a good player but lost all of his confidence, he's pityful at Betis atm. I don't see him ever becoming the player he was at Sociedad for that half a season.

Kuyt had a great record in Holland and to be fair his first season was decent. He's shocking now and I say the sooner we get rid of him the better. He hasn't looked like scoring all season. All he's got in the league are those 2 pens and that complete fluke he wasn't even trying to score... sigh.

Palletta hardly played and he has potential

Bellamy was risk free.

I don't rate Pennant (never scores, hardly puts in an accurate cross.) and we overpaid massively but I still don't think he's the worst player, or value for money. But for bad value for money he's not too far behind Kuyt.
