I'll go along with that!Originally posted by alunevansShanks had a phrase did he not "football is a simple game complicated by fools"?
Its springing to mind a lot lately. Mainly when I see our team sheet.
However the game has become a lot more complex over the years since the great man was in charge.
Rafa does need a settled nucleus - he should work on that first. He seems to be trying to do everything at once and it's making the players look clueless....

Rafa couldn't put his best team out this season because there's been many new players coming in and bedding plus the fact that some like Stevie G and Alonso aren't 100% yet. We'll get better and we'll be top by end of November ...

I agree that Alonso should be dropped , momo and Gerrard in the middle, and play a pair of strikers up front. For ages people have talked about square pegs and round holes ,well we now have the squad to play a perfectly balanced team ,with Gerrard in his best position. I look forward to seeing it.I was Riddler on Koptalk.
Wheres Tom numbers ???

When you have a world-class player not playing at his best you do not drop him. Espessially when he is this young. That will only take away his match fitness and his confidence.Originally posted by RiddlerI agree that Alonso should be dropped , momo and Gerrard in the middle, and play a pair of strikers up front. I know he has had a bad start to the season but I’m sure he knows that. What Rafa is doing is helping him get back his form and build his confidence up.
One of the biggest parts of being a manager is man management. That means knowing every individual player and how to deal with him. Some you need to be tough with and others you need to help. Alonso is obviously the latter and there for he is played.
Form is temporary, class is permanent.
As for Gerrard he is IMO wasted in a two man midfield. There is simply too much defensive responsibility so that he does not function to his best as an attacker.
What he needs to do IMO is to trust the two midfielders to do their jobs and go all out as an attacker. That is how he is most effective and most dangerous.

Ok so we play him in the hole? thats the position you are suggesting Dan?.
I like watching him in that position personally for obvious reasons. But I wouldnt really call it central midfield. We have a formation to think about, a shape to keep. IMHO we wouldnt be hearing all the negativity lately if Alonso had have been the Alonso of last season so far this term and Riise wasnt injured.
It made my blood boil listening to that **** Gray today, he normally doesnt bother me, but today he did. Why wasnt anything said about any of the chavs midfield players, they played 4 natural central midfield players in a midfield 4, not a word was mentioned about them playing out of position. Gerrard nearly scored a couple of times from his left midfield position today, he likes to come in and shoot on his right foot, it may well have paid off for us.
I think people are over reacting lately, people should have a vit of patience.
My theory on our start is the squad getting used to playing as a squad, much like last season we had a bad start this term, except internationals and injuries ****ed us right up before two of the biggest away fixtures of the season. They were always tough tough games no matter when we play them.
Give the squad a chance to settle. The new boys up front will only get better as will Aurelio and Gonzales. Kewell has to come back too. There is plenty of the season left, and if we win our game in hand, we are not that far away from the mancs. Its not all doom and gloom.
I still think we will be pushing for the title this season, but we need to get behind the lads.
Was kinda under the impression that LFC fans were amongst the more intelligent fans. But ive been supprised lately with the lack of understanding.
This is not an attack on you Dan, hope it doesnt sound that way, guess im just venting a little frustration at everything im reading of late.
There are plenty of good times ahead this season and im sure we will see much better performances from the SQUAD this season when they settle.Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'
"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.
* After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

not sure why suggesting we play Gerrard in the same position as last year is unintelligent on my part.
Yes we have a system but thats why we spent ages in the transfer market signing a right and left winger only to see Gerrard move around and play there instead."What's your favourite Beatles album then?"
"I think I'd have to say....Best of the Beatles"

Do we have strikers at the club though. Bellamy isn't a goalscorer as his record shows. Crouch isn't what you'd think of as an out and out goalscorer, offering other things to his play instead. Kuyt scored lots in Holland but seems more like a linkup player who would have a striker playing with him, and then theres Robbie, who is a striker, but looking a bit past it nowadays.Originally posted by RiddlerI agree that Alonso should be dropped , momo and Gerrard in the middle, and play a pair of strikers up front. I still really worry that, unless Dirk is a goalscorer at this level as well as the other stuff he does, that we've still not got a goalscorer despite bringing in two new forwards.
They all offer something but who is the guy you'd happily put in your fantasy football team knowing they're gonna hit the net week in week out?
