    squandering possession

i knew there would be threads about individual efforts today- pennant, stevie, bellamy and xabi all underperformed imo and are prime targets

however, as a team whenever we looked like building up some momentum passes went astray, miscommunications or just simple lousy technique.

some of this can be excused but the simple idea of talking to each other and having the ability to pass to each other shouldn't be too much to ask from multimillionaire professional sportsmen.

some of you will blame rafa and/or his selection, some will blame riley, some the chavs.

i personally think that the vast majority of the squad have come back thinking that last season was so easy they don't have to try anymore. and that ****ing pisses me off more than anything.

    none of its good enough

Xabi did alright 2day, he could of got a couple assits if the players could hit the back of the net. The only problem is hes not as influential as he has been in the past, seems to be in the shadow of some player, he was key the last 2 seasons and needs to take charge again.

imo our passing was pretty poor ,yes it improved but only after ballack had gone off and they let us have the ball and more or less said cmon and see if you can get past us.
          we couldnt.
theres something missing there for us.that little spark that will set us off
Parry is a clown. En Rafa que confiamos

I've always thought we needed a little more creativity in the middle of the park. Alonso sits back, break up play and then sprays the ball around but offers little going forward. Momo is a workhorse again breaks up play and covers every blade of grass on the pitch but doesn't pass the ball well and won't score goals. Gerrard is our talisman almost the complete midfielder. Dynamic player with a great eye for goal and range of passing but always wants to try the hollywood pass or shot on goal instead of sometimes doing the simple thing. This is why he is not yet the complete worldclass player. He lacks the discipline to be the very best central midfielder and does tend to go AWOL sometimes in the biggest premiership games. I am not having a pop at Stevie but trying to be the devils advocate here. He is an essential part of the team but as is said on here on a regular basis I think Rafa is baffled at how to accomodate him. I think with these 3 players the team is not balanced enough. The creativity we need in the middle needs to be a bit more subtle than what Gerrard gives us. I have always been a massive fan of Pablo Aimar and still cannot fathom why we let him go to Real Zaragoza. Surely he could have been a very useful addition to the squad and the player I believe with the guile who could have unlocked the Chelsea defence today.
            Dare we believe
