Actually the most interesting part for me! So if the bbc is correct, that would mean no news on takeover untill fourth place is settled or we win / loose out in the CL???

Might as well focus on the matches untill then!

can't see them being put off buying us, by not getting 4th, IMHO

Nope, but it will affect to evalutation price of the club, whether we qual. or not... But if ture, it means that no news / bid would be made untill the end of this season, and perhaps not before the qual. rounds of next years competition is settled...

Iv'e never understood why people trust the BBC more than any other media sources. Iam a great fna of them, but people like Mcnulty and Bhose are no more clued in than the rest of the media, and this business of 'if the BBC says it understands it means it's true' just isnt the case at all. Eve the assumtion that they have a rule stating that at least two sources must have info for it to be 'understood' is simply and made up newsroom thing. They have more resources, and use them well, but read te stuff on thier website and compare it with the papers, not much different. Theyre very good at reporting what has happened, but much less so at predictions or inside info.

And that 'news' contradicts what the BBC said earlier in the week and is completely different to the major broadsheets who appear to be being briefed by DIC's PR people. You'd think DIC finance advisors are working on a number of different scenarios rather than just waiting to see what happens at the end of the season.

This was an interesting point off RAWK

My totally unsubtantiated and groundless guess is that Gillet's big fear at present is that Hicks doesnt sell, and it is Gillet - not DIC - who has been briefing the press about ongoing negotiations and it is Gillet to whom Hicks referred cryptically in his statement the other day.

My guess is that Gillet realises that what is on offer now from DIC is rather more that what would be on offer should we fail to make champions league football (looking 50:50 at present) and the problems that will cause. Because although the dangers of us going into Leeds style freefall are far-fetched (but certainly possible), far more likely is that we will need to sell players - and sell big - to keep up with our interest payments. And that is before we need to renegotiate the loan, with the potential of Gillet needing to open his wallet for the first time in this whole sorry mess.

Its not impossible that the price offered by DIC to Gillet will decrease over the next 12 months. My assumption is that the offer from DIC to Gillet is predicated on a simultaneious sale of some (or all) of Hicks' holding to guarantee control. And that is the sticking point at present. Which is why Gillet is pushing Hicks to sell because unless Hicks does, he cannot.

In a new twist in the mooted takeover of Liverpool F.C. by Dubai International Capital (D.I.C.), there were concrete signs this evening that a delegation from the group had, indeed, arrived at Liverpool F.C.'s stadium, Anfield...

Hicks may block Liverpool co-owner Gillett from selling 50 percent stake

MANCHESTER, England (AP) -Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks may block George Gillett Jr. if he tries to sell his 50 percent stake in the Premier League club.

Hicks, who has said he is not interested in selling his portion of the team, and Gillett cannot sell their stakes without the other's consent.

"Not only am I not going to sell, my partner cannot sell without my approval,'' Hicks said in Thursday's edition of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "So, I kind of have the ability to determine the outcome of what is going to happen, and I am right in the middle of that.''

The comments are the first public indication of a possible breakdown in the relationship between the two American businessmen since they bought Liverpool last March.

Meanwhile, Dubai International Capital is stepping up its pursuit of the five-time European champions and is in regular contact with Gillett, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the deal.

DIC, the private-equity investment arm of the Dubai government, is only interested in buying Gillett's shares if it can gain control of Liverpool. That would involve Hicks selling at least part of his stake.

"For a lot of reasons I can't discuss, I haven't been able to fix it yet,'' Hicks, who also owns baseball's Texas Rangers and the NHL's Dallas Stars, told the Star-Telegram of the club's ownership. "But I am preparing to be in a position to fix it.''

On Tuesday, Hicks told the AP in an e-mail that he is committed to Liverpool "regardless'' of the actions of Gillett, who also owns the Montreal Canadiens.

Gillett and Hicks bought Liverpool for 218.9 million pounds (then US$431 million; ?333 million) in March 2007, which included an agreement to pay off about 45 million pounds (then US$89 million; ?68 million) of debt and a pledge to build and finance a 60,000-seat stadium.

Gillett has taken a back seat in recent months, along with his son Foster Gillett, who is a director. Instead, Hicks has been the main spokesman for the co-owners in public statements.

Fans have been turning against the American owners, who have been in a power struggle with popular manager Rafa Benitez over player transfers. Hicks has acknowledged he sought out former Germany coach Juergen Klinsmann as a possible replacement for Benitez in November.

A group of Liverpool fans is also hoping to buy the club from the Americans. Share Liverpool FC is trying to raise 500 million pounds (US$990 million; ?650 million) by asking fans to pledge 5,000 pounds (US$9,900; ?6,500) each.

Former Liverpool players Phil Thompson and John Aldridge are among 9,500 people who have pledged to donate money to the member-share scheme.

Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Is he trying to make himself MORE unpopular with us, if that's possible, the guy's a scumbag, seems to be going out of his way to annoy fans. I thought he had 1st refusal on G's half, not a say in whether he could even sell it. Devastating if true, or maybe he's letting the fan's know that IF DIC do buy them, he could have stopped them but never, thus winning fans over...HE THINKS.

Thats bad. It all rests on Hicks thus DIC can not get in on Gillett's share and they force him out. This could rumble on for months

What does that mean? That he is preparing to to fix the fact he will buy Gilletts half? Or is he selling part of his half and trying to fix the price for that?

I feel his insinuation is that he's preparing to buy Gillette's half. OH MY GOD..
OR....he's bluffing in order to make DIC pay his price.
