Square1 to help with Liverpool bid

The bid team considering a takeover approach for Liverpool FC is using Square1 Consulting alongside retained agency Brunswick to brief journalists.

Square1, formerly Holborn PR, is working with a third party involved in the possible Dubai International Capital deal and has been talking to journalists about the bid.

Liverpool is currently under controversial American ownership, which has prompted protests from fans. DIC looked set to buy Liverpool 18 months ago and is rumoured to still be interested.

Brunswick was used during the initial bid and is DIC's retained agency.

The takeover by US duo Tom Hicks and George Gillett was seen in many quarters as a huge PR success. But since then, relationships between the owners, manager and Liverpool supporters have soured considerably.

Didn't mean the fact that this particular person posted is significant. The news is all over the marketing press.

What is significant is that someone close to DIC has engaged a PR agency. It's significant because they have never had anything to say on the matter in the past, but now have hired an agency.

Could signify that they now do have something to say, or will soon, or that things have moved on significantly.

They don't need an agency to say "We are not buying LFC" Besides, they already have an agency that could do that (Brunswick PR). This new one is a sports PR specialist...

Also, the fact thyat they have used a third party to engage them is in keeping with an 'arms length' strategy - i.e. if it all goes tits up, they can deny any involvement

For me this is the first concrete DIC news since this all started - far more so than all the hearsay and rumours on here and in the press

For me the most important evidence is that DIC have said nothing at all, and you are not allowed to say anything about the company or whatever you want to buy during a DD.

When DIC say something then you can be sure that they have finished their DD.
