the only concrete thing for me is the fact that some of the dic top brass are liverpool fans and as such would quash any rumours (hopes!) of there interest so the fans wouldnt go barking up the wrong alley.

for me there silence speaks volumes

To clear this up. The BBC uses the phrase 'understands' (in common with lots of other media outlets) when it is using content gained from an 'off the record' or unattributable briefing. In other words, they have been briefed by either Gillett or DIC's people/agency but not given a name to attribute quotes to.

Does not mean it is fact. But it does mean they have been fed it by someone from a credible source or someone close to the situation.

Basically, Hicks, Gillett and DIC are counter briefing the media against each other, but only Hicks is allowing his name to be used.

Now that is more revealing than most of what we've heard. As if to say 'I'm staying Gillette is off. Sort of from the Horses mouth.

Also they have to get it verified by 2 seperate authorities before they can go ahead and use the term.

His PR agency must love him. Once again, he can't help but open his mouth one time too many. Not that I mind of course. As you say, he has pretty much confirmed a lot of the rumours (G/H split, G to sell etc) with that one loose email.

                        Thanks Tom

That's not strictly true. That's when they use the phrase 'sources close to the deal confirmed...

Understands is much more equivocal and is a tacit reference to the fact that the info has come from a potentially biased briefing

So in other words, they mean they have only been given one side to the story, briefed by a source that could have ulterior motives for giving them the info, & whether the info is true or not is for the reader/listener to decide? yes no?

Well no. They have two sides.

One quoted as saying they are not selling (Hicks) and one not quoted but saying the opposite (take your pick or Gillett and DIC).

Hicks though has since ****ed up with his 'regardless of Gillett' comment, which suggests that Gillett is selling and undermines his own denials

But to answer your question. Essentially yes, they are saying 'this is what we have been told by a credible source. We are not going to completely endorse this info, so make up your own mind...'

The way I see it Hicks is being pushed into making these statements solely to make it appear that HE is in control of the situation.

I am sure there is mounting pressure on him behind the scenes to accept some kind of offer from DIC, and he is trying to show he is in a strong position and does not need/want to sell.

He is a proven lying cunt so his statement is a load of baloney and as far as I am concerned it is only a matter of time before he sells.
