If he matches it and the terms of DIC's offer, i.e. DIC might say they will pay x amount in Euros. As the Euro is appreciating by the day, Hicks must pay the same value now or on pay day.The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and goodwill shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers and you will know my name is The Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee. Keep ramming it.Originally posted by CharlieMansonsSquint View PostWell at least Rafa and the players will have their excuses in early should we lose a match and or drop points.
And honestly, do people really want the arabs to take over, can we really trust a bloke who dies his beard, or even has one to begin with?
These are the important questions.

What's racist about it?Originally posted by pablo1981 View PostNo these are borderline racist questions.
As far as I'm concerned the arabs and the yanks are one and the same.
Don't care about the fans, our money on the other hand.....
It's sad to see people delude themselves that DIC are some sort of saviour and that they're going to come in on a flying carpet and lavish on the club, so we can all play fantasy football like the Chavs did when Roman took them over.
That's the real reason so many want them to take over.
Let's not forget the reason they want to buy us, it's the same reason Hicks and Giliett bought us.I hate Polanski

Paid a visit to his brother, and then he
He walked on down the hall, and
And he came to a door...and he looked inside

Cmon baby, take a chance with us
Cmon baby, take a chance with us

is it purely a figure that is to be matched or is it the whole terms of the offer. what if the terms of DICs offer state that they will pay off the whole debt should they gain 95%+ of the club. hicks can't match this whilst exercising his first option (for 100%+ of the club) unless he pays off our debts. so in one sense, its a massively better offer that hicks couldnt match unless he agrees to pay off our debts.
thats one for the investment bankers on here...

thats not why most want dic. we only want them on board as they have the ability to make us the club we need to be and finance us soundly. the yanks must cripple us with debts that we struggle to pay off. sure dic will make us profitable, commercially viable and will invest to get the stadium we need etc. but doing this without having to pay extortionate interest is what we're after from them. no one expects another ambramobitchOriginally posted by CharlieMansonsSquint View PostWhat's racist about it?

You might well be rightOriginally posted by CharlieMansonsSquint View PostAs far as I'm concerned the arabs and the yanks are one and the same.
Having said that, there are suggestions today that they would clear the debts - meaning no £30m per year interest payments. Could be a lie, but I'd like the chance to find out. I can't imagine they would be worse, so what's to be lost?

It's not being a realist. Every one with a little bit of intelligence knows that you've said is ultimately right. It's got to do with the money first, then our traditions in second.Originally posted by CharlieMansonsSquint View PostOr am I being realistic?
But give these guys a break and let them take over our club first and prove us wrong before making rash judgements.
No one is dreaming of a sugar daddy splashing over money like Roman, but simply someone who'll give us the financial backing we need to 'compete'. Because you're deluding yourself if you think we're competing financially right now.

Tom Hicks, partner reject bid to buy Liverpool soccer club
11:29 AM CST on Tuesday, March 4, 2008
Associated Press
LIVERPOOL, England – Liverpool co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr. rejected Dubai International Capital's bid for the Premier League club Tuesday, The Associated Press has learned.
The $800 million offer for the English club was turned down, a person involved with the negotiations told the AP. He spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.
DIC on Tuesday gave the Americans 24 hours to accept its offer.
"It's worth a lot more, and I have no intention of selling," Hicks told The Dallas Morning News in an e-mail.
Hicks is committed to retaining his 50 percent share in Liverpool while Gillett is reportedly willing to sell. Hicks has said he can block Gillett from selling his stake.
The duo bought the club last year for $431 million – beating a rival bid from the Dubai consortium.
Hicks owns the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Stars. Gillett is owner of the Montreal Canadiens.
Gillett has been in close contact with DIC in recent weeks after deciding to end his troubled spell at Anfield. Hicks is looking into buying all or part of Gillett's equal stake by raising private equity.
The DIC bid was made a day after chief executive Sameer al-Ansari said Hicks and Gillett had "come out of dreamland" over the worth of the Premier League club.
Gillett and Hicks refinanced their Liverpool deal with a $682 million package from two banks on Jan. 25. But the package left the 18-time English champions with debt of $205 million.
Hicks revealed in January that he had spoken to DIC about a "10 to 15 percent participation" but that his valuation was deemed to be too high.
Since then, Hicks has said he is committed to retaining his share of Liverpool and he anticipates taking a "more active role" with the 18-time English champion.
Fans turned on the American owners after their public feud with popular manager Rafa Benitez over transfers, leading to demonstrations outside and inside Anfield.
Since talks were held in December, Benitez speaks warmly about Hicks, who sends the Spaniard motivational e-mails.
The Reds trail leader Arsenal by 15 points and are vying with fourth-place Everton for the final Champions League berth.
