Your initial post was slightly ott though mate, what with kneecappings and doing time 'n' all, I think he was just trying to make a point about people's reactions overdoing it a little. Which they are. The anger and upset and frustration and whatever else that many people are naturally feeling, is all getting a little bit pantomime at times too.

Seems like Gillett's lawyers are desperately trying to find a way out of this cul-de-sac he's been backed into by Hicks.

Is it time to say "MATTER OF DAYS"?

On a serious note, I am calm and it will all boil down to money.

Spot on. They are looking for a loophole which will allow them to sell, once sold DIC being the wealthier hold the cards.

fair enough just re read my post and it is a bit OTT. Of course i wouldn't want to kneecap him or do time. Just had a **** of a week so far and i get home and read this **** all over the place about him wanting to buy all the club. Sorry to Bob for telling him to **** off after all we should not be fighting as we all want the same at the end of the day.

Just want Hicks gone asap as he will ruin our club. Also the hating american thing is not just about this. I have my reasons for my dislike of them. Not all Americans are bad as i have relatives over there.

agreed i think he wants out of this sorry mess asap, but i dont think he will give in to hicks, it was initialy his idea and as such maybe pride will obligate him to sell to dic. maybe.

To get a decision of such magnitude so disatrously wrong is unforgiveable for both. If DIC come in hopefully RP will be on his way after all the introductions etc.

He may not have a choice legally.

But it seems very much like his lawyers and DIC are working together on this, which is obviously a good sign.

DIC makes £400m offer for Liverpool

By Roger Blitz in London and Simeon Kerr in Dubai

                              Published: March 4 2008 11:56 | Last updated: March 4 2008 14:07

Dubai International Capital confirmed on Tuesday that it has made a £400m indicative offer to acquire Liverpool Football Club, English football’s most successful club side.

Sameer al-Ansari, chief executive of DIC, said that talks between the sovereign wealth fund and Tom Hicks and George Gillette, Liverpool’s US owners, were a “sensitive stage”.

Unconfirmed reports suggest a midnight deadline has been set for a potential £400m deal.

DIC, which is controlled by Dubai’s ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, last year made a £219m offer for Liverpool but failed to reach an agreement with David Moores, the club’s former chairman.

Mr Ansari, a UK-trained fund manager, was speaking on the sidelines of a private equity conference in Dubai. Liverpool has not yet responded to the indicative offer, according to reports.

Last week Tom Hicks, one of the two American co-owners of Liverpool, denied he was about to sell his 50 per cent stake in the Premier League club which is valued at about £200m.

The statement followed reports that DIC was expected to be given permission to examine Liverpool’s books.

Mr Ansari said that as an avid Liverpool fan he would love to help save the club’s faltering season. He added that one of the two owners was showing signs that he could lower the valuation of the club.

DIC, which owns Travelodge, the UK budget hotel chain, and Almatis, a Germany-based alumina producer, has 80 per cent of its assets in the US and Europe with the remainder in the Middle East and Asia. The investment fund, which invests surplus real estate and corporate profits of Dubai’s holding conglomerate, also has significant stakes in HSBC, EADS and Sony.

DIC said it aims to more than double the $13bn in assets it currently holds over the next few years. While denying that DIC was a sovereign wealth fund, Mr Ansari said growing suspicion in the west of the intentions of these institutions was pushing them to focus more on Asia.
