That statement, although obvious is true. The other one if actually taken literally makes no sense whatsoever. Even in the context it's used it's ****ing ridiculous as Gerrard is only noticed more than the likes of Carra (who arguably has actually won us more matches 'single handedly' than Gerrard over the last few years, but rarely has a good word said about him in the press) as he is an attacking rather than defensive player.

Getting rid of a whole bunch of players would be worthwhile if we had a manager who's able to get the best out of them, or those who'd replace them, which Benitez currently isn't.

Think back to 2005, let's not forget how awful that team really was, there was some right stiffs in that side, but our manager got the best out of them because they had to play because there was nobody else.

It was the same a year later, 82 points, smaller squad, less options and players had form because if they played well they stayed in the team.

He's more frustrating that Houllier, he can do it, but he chooses not to.

Changing the players would solve little at this point.

Personally I think Rafa's had far too long for us to need a 'clear out', half the players you want gone are his buys anyway. At this stage we should be a couple of first teamers away from a title challenge - and at the moment we could do with class down both the defence/attack of both wings as well as another top striker. This will take a lot of £££, so it would not surprise me at all if Alonso was sacrificed. Shame because on his day he's class, but the last time he had those 'days' regularly was far too long ago, not sure what's wrong with him
