    Jermaine Pennant

If he could cross properly he'd be a goodin, a very goodin.

I thought he played well tonight when he came on, he always takes up good positions but his crosses are a bit ****ty. Just floated in, they need to be whipped and bent in with pace.

He's not the worst though, at times i think he's worth a place in our squad at least, other times i think he should be sold to Fulham or Wigan.

    What about you guys?

I thought he played well and his crossing looked good to me.

I could have swore he assisted both goals tonight and made a great attacking option along with Crouch.Kudos to Rafa`s subs again.

His crossing is much better than Babel and Aurelio. Its is definitely clear that our left side needs re-inforcing big time. If Pennant could add more running power to his crossing, he could be in starting more games and maybe be in the England squad.

His crossing wasn't great tonight mate, although he did play a part in our two goals which he deserves credit for. He certainly made a difference when he came on, got at there backline and put them on the back foot which allowed Gerrard, Torres etc get into the game.

Fair point Marky. My worry is that when he plays in a four-man midfield with Masher, our scoring options become very limited.
I'm playing all the right notes. Not necessarily in the right order. I'll give you that, sunshine.

yet you think Finnan delivers a decent ball.

If Pennant wants to step a class, he has to be more direct in his play, he needs to attack the oppositions box (no pun intended), he plays too many negative balls IMO

Useful player to have in the squad but not of the standard required for the 1st team if we want to challenge for the title. His decision making at times is poor aswell as his crossing and he offers zero goal threat from midfield. He has the potential to be a very good player but I'm not so sure he has the desire.

The first cross Pennant made last night, we scored from.

I actually think that crossing is the best part of his game.

His short passing though. That is usually terrible.
                        Oh I don't know.

His crossing aint bad. Can't score for toffee though, and that's his biggest problem. I wouldn't write him off yet.

It depends what you mean by improving his crossing. More often than not, Pennant picks out a man in the box. A lot of the time this means he floats balls in, as there is no-one there for him to whip them in to. I think it is more a problem of our attackers (Torres excepted) not attacking the ball, as I've said hundreds of times before.

His biggest weakness is his reluctance to drive inside and go for goal himself, rather than his crossing. He doesn't score enough, but then only Gerrard does out of our midfielders these days...

Finnan usually delivers well, it's been a bit stop-start for him this season mainly through injury and a loss of form but you look back to last season his crossing was top class. No reason why he can't get back to that sort of form.
Last night was a start, he played very well.
