Question about zonal marking...

To be fair both Arsenal and Man United do this too most of the time. The difference is that both of those teams release players more quickly into the counter attack and attack quickly and as a team.Originally posted by ShaggyAlonso View PostI hate that too. I love Rafa but this is one of my complaints about him.
I like to see it varied at time sin terms of having someone upfield but I think that zonal marking is effective and it's benefits out weigh it's deficiencies. The problem is that you need to break more quickly after the event and too frequently our players get to the half way line and pass sideway or look to simply keep possession."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Haha I know where you stand mate...just yankin your chain.Originally posted by Howard_lfc View PostOn t'other site I have - but not since monday Shags.
You may have even read the posts where I've said he's been our most consistent player of late
Nothing and nobody will change my mind about paying that kind of money for a holding midfielder when we're already well stocked and we crying out for creativity and wide players.
He was excellent retrieving possession again last night. Worked his proverbial argentinian bollocks off.
For me this is a really simplistic way of looking at it. I don't have the time at the moment to provide the detailed response this requires, but there's been a few great articles lately that have explained the merits of zonal marking very well indeed.Originally posted by Jack D Rips View PostI love Rafa but I'll never understand zonal marking
Space never scored a goal
Think one of 'em was a combined effort on the BBC from Hansen and Howard Wilkinson (don't let that put you off).
I know if I coached my own team (which one day I'd like to do), I would implement a zonal marking system. Every time. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Sorry Shaggy I fell into a deep sleep when you mentioned HW, and just woke up. I know the arguments for zonal marking, but being an old stager I just cant see past the merits of man marking, in much the same way I cant see past the merits of a winger hitting an early cross from level with the corner of the box being preferable to a cross from the endlineOriginally posted by ShaggyAlonso View PostHaha I know where you stand mate...just yankin your chain.
