    Carra: Fans rattled Inter

Liverpool fans 'rattled' Inter Milan - Jamie Carragher
Feb 21 2008 by Tony Barrett, Liverpool Echo

JAMIE CARRAGHER today hailed the Liverpool fans for helping to "rattle" Inter Milan - and called on his team-mates to ensure the Reds qualify for next season's Champions League.

Liverpool produced one of their finest performances of the season in beating the Italian champions 2-0, but Carragher insists they must now reproduce that form in the Premier League as they battle to secure fourth place.

He said: “We realise that we’ve now got three or four league games before the second leg in Milan and we’re going to have to make sure that we are in this competition next season.

“There’s something about us when we play in Europe but we’ve got a job to do in the Premiership and we have to make sure we don’t lose sight of that.”

Carragher was again hugely impressed with the atmosphere created by the Anfield crowd on Tuesday night and he credited the fans with playing a key role in unsettling Inter.

“We’ve had a few of them now,” he said.

“I wouldn’t say you take them for granted but the fans always put on their best performances on a European night. That goes right through the history of the club and I’m sure it will be the same for however long the club is going.

“We’ve always had special European nights and this was another one.

“We always try and make a good start in European games at home, get in people’s faces and set a high tempo and the crowd play a big part in that.

“I think we rattled Inter Milan in the first 15-20 minutes and the crowd played as big a part in that as anyone.

“I’m running out of things to say about the fans but they proved once again that they’re the best in Europe.”

Though delighted with the two goals Liverpool scored and the clean sheet they kept, Carragher believes the tie is a long way from being over.

He said: “We realised how tough it would be before the game but we started quite well and then the sending off had a big impact.

“I thought Inter defended brilliantly at times but in the end we got a couple of goals. If someone had offered us that before the game we would have been delighted but I’m still expecting a really difficult game when we go over there.

“Credit to the lads though, they kept on plugging away and that’s why we ended up getting the two goals.

“I would have loved to have got another one before the end but it was very important not to concede one and that was a big thing on our minds.

“Even when it was 1-0 we would have been delighted with that result but to get the second one, thanks to a great goal by Stevie, was the icing on the cake.”

    Carra

Am I remembering correctly that he's suspended for the Boro game?

Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and goodwill shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. I dont care what anyone says, nobody can underestimate the power of Anfield...

Whether's it dirty russain billionaires from west london, match-fixing cheats from Turin, or highly experienced Italian champions.

They all think they've been there, done it, seen everything and it wont phase them.

Then the match starts...and we beat them

              Yep.

You get these 'experts' on SSN - journos like that knobhead Paul Hayward - dismissing the 'Anfield factor'...."Oh these are top pros experienced in all kinds of scenarios - this won't affect them one bit".

Keep on dreaming. The facts show otherwise.

Exactly, it keeps happening time and time again.

They cant have it both ways...either we're 'not as good' as the other european giants and underdogs, as they like to say....in which case, the Anfield effect obviously plays a part....or we're just brilliant

The atmosphere is what YOU make it. Your fans too yeah? So why say 'THEY'?
Stand up and make yourself heard loud and clear and plenty will join. Dont sit there moaning about 'Them fans'

Believe me if I had the chance to be at the games I would be singing for the whole 90mins. People on here don't realise how lucky they are to get to see the match week in week out. Us so called OTT's get alot of stick, but the truth be told its the season ticket holders not giving the support!
