Yeah and man can also run 100m in 10 seconds. Can you do it though?

The point being that what's 'possible' and what's likely are worlds apart.

I think its the most ridiculous and irrelevant point I have ever seen on any messageboard I have ever been on. It is not likely nor is it possible that I will run 100m in 10 seconds, so therefore in my case they are not world's apart. Surely you can come up with a better analogy than that?

FWIW I don't think we will win the league either but there are two things that could disprove that theory, 1) I would like to see what happens in the summer and 2) I ave learnt that under Rafa Benitez one thing we should expect is the unexpected. If you asked me whether I would think we could win the European Cup Final at half time after being totally outplayed and 3-0 down I would say there was more chance of us winning the league next year.

Rafa has shown no inclination to change his tactical approach domestically, we have **** all money and about two or three world class players only, we by and large play **** football after three years under the same manager with mostly his signings in the team, and it's nigh on crazy to ignore the reality that in the league, there's always a 0-0 or a defeat against an absolutely ****e team just around the corner because we're too tied up in knots wondering how to 'stop the opposition' or 'score the first goal and control the game' instead of being positive, going out there and playing good football that will make the Wigans and Birminghams of this world worry about US, instead of the other way around.

Negative football doesn't win leagues, that's why we're a millions ****ing miles behind Man Yoo and further still behind an Arsenal team that trailed behind us as little as 9/10 months ago. The writing's on the wall.
Very good post. This year has shown us that we're as far away from winning the league as ever. We just don't have the players or the class in the squad to compete over 38 games. I think Rafa may be able to win the league for us but I now believe it'll be another 2-3 seasons before we come close. We have too many average players. You can see what Rafa is trying to do at times by setting us up in the style of his old Valencia team but we just don't have the players to pull of this style and too often look plodding and uninspired. I wouldn't say Rafa is negative per se. Arsenal and the Scum have both shown you can play exciting football with a 4-5-1 system in previous seasons.

I admire the optimism of those that think next year will be our year, but we have been saying this for so long now that it has beecome our mindless mantra. Every year was 'going to be our year' for the last ten-fifteen seasons but it has never happened. We have to be realistic. It's going to take more time, more time than any of us want but it is proving to be more of an uphill struggle than we anticipated.
A humble guy with healthy desire.

Thats not true actually, optimistic people tend to live longer and suffer less depression. Pessimistic people die quicker.

And have a much less happy life in the process.

Time passes quickly when you enjoy yourself so one good thing from continually being pessimistice is that even though life will be shorter (and empirical evidence backs this) it will feel a hell of a lot longer. But I suppose a pessimist would never think this.

In my experience, optimism in football generally leaves you gutted.

You do it your way, expect to win everything...and have a 'oh well, as expected' feeling when we do, or be devestated when we dont. I'll expect not to win and then enjoy it even more when we do.
